Honestly, the food is usually great. NEVER GO IN ON A RUSH!!!! They microwaved our nachos and turned a rare steak into dry leather on the mobile order, and after arriving 40 minutes after ordering we had to wait another 40 to get the food…. I’m not saying don’t go there. But if it looks busy, chipotle is the better option

asked a lady for a rib eye steak with no vegetables or rice. she comes back with a steak full of tomatoes covering it and rice. told her it was wrong had an attitude the ENTIRE time came back with a “new” steak. all she did was remove the tomatoes and give the same steak.

We stopped in for dinner while dropping our son off to collage. Were very pleased with our experience. Waiter kept the chips and salsa coming. Service and food were both excellent. We will visit again.

Gran Ranchero’s a regular spot for me and my brother, they make you really feel at home if you get to know the servers. We always ask for Diego; he makes the best margaritas and knows what he’s doing. The chicken spinach quesadilla hits every time. Solid place, no complaints.

Best spot in Athens for margaritas and my go-to quesadilla. Diego is hands down the best server friendly, fast, and makes the best margarita ever (salt every time, double lime, always on point). Ask to sit in his section if you can.
The food is solid and cheap, and the vibe is always laid-back. One heads up: there’s a clueless server with a ponytail/man bun who’s served me warm margaritas without salt or a lime before… definitely not ideal. Don’t confuse him with the other bearded man bun guy who also works there; that guy’s actually really good.
Overall, it’s one of my favorite spots in town for casual eats and strong drinks. Highly recommend.

Gran Ranchero is hands down one of my favorite spots—especially when I’m craving a really good margarita. Their margaritas are seriously excellent—super refreshing, delicious, and honestly the best around.
But what really makes the experience special is the service. Diego is the guy you want taking care of you. Every time I go, he’s incredibly friendly, super attentive, and just a genuinely cool person to be around. He knows the menu inside and out and always makes sure everything is perfect. You can tell he really takes pride in his job and cares about his customers.
If you’re going to Gran Ranchero, do yourself a favor—just ask for Diego when you walk in. You won’t regret it. Great drinks, great food, and even better service. This is the Athens Ohio location to be clear on location. Truely amazing place!

I’ve been to Gran Ranchero many times and usually enjoy it, but my most recent visit was very disappointing. It took four separate calls just to place my order, and when I finally got through, I was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. Instead, it took about 40 minutes — and while I can understand a delay during busy times, there wasn’t a single other customer in the restaurant.
When I arrived, I politely mentioned I had a pickup order, but the man behind the desk stayed on his phone, avoided eye contact, and refused say a single word to me the entire time I was in there including when he handed me my food. The portions were also very small and the food was cold.
If it had only been a delay, I wouldn’t be writing this review. Unfortunately, the lack of courtesy and the poor food quality made this experience disappointing enough to share. I truly hope it was just an off day.

Absolutely authentic and amazing Mexican food, to include the complimentary chips and salsa! Beer was ice cold. Great portions and reasonable pirces. The server only checked on us towards the end while we sat with empty drinks for half our meal. Place could use an upgrade and deep cleaning.
