Living in plains, we stop by often to enjoy lunch or dinner. We like the buffalo chicken horseshoes, crawfish appetizer, corn nuggets, and steak. On the new menu the pizza and Mac and cheese (pulled pork, tomatoes and mushrooms, and all the toppings) are winners! We love supporting local and eating great food!

The Grainery is one of those places that consistently gets it right. The food is fresh, flavorful, and served in generous portions. Whether you’re stopping in for dinner, meeting friends, or attending one of their events, the experience is always solid.
The atmosphere strikes a great balance — welcoming, comfortable, and lively without feeling overwhelming. It’s become a true gathering spot for the community, especially for watch parties and celebrations.
The staff is friendly, attentive, and efficient, even when they’re busy. You can tell they take pride in what they do.
If you’re in the Pleasant Plains area, The Grainery is absolutely worth a visit. Reliable, enjoyable, and a place you’ll want to return to.

The menu has a nice variety of choices and a few surprises. I don’t know of any other restaurants near Springfield IL that serves Grouper fish. The Breaded Pork Tenderloin is made fresh abd its really good. The Wednesday night fried chicken special is really popular. Food here is great, staff super friendly.

We went at a slow time. Only 2 or 3 tables with people. Took 10 minutes to even be acknowledged. I asked what beers they had on draft, she had to go ask the bartender. 10 minutes later, I had to flag her down, she said the bartender was writing them down. She finally brought me the list. The list had 6 beers on it! You can’t remember 6 beers as a server??? We order our drinks and meal.
About 8 minutes later we get our drinks. So doing the math…28 minutes to get 2 drinks.
Food was really good. I would completely understand if the place was packed, but as i said only 3 tables had people. Sadly it wasn’t a good experience. We probably won’t be back. Sidenote: the entryway was horribly icy! As we entered there was a huge bag of salt sitting in the entry way.

I ordered a ribeye sandwich for take out very disappointed. The ribeye was dry and very thin . Looked more like a piece of over cooked roast beef. There mushrooms that I ordered. Were excellent cooked to perfection and no grease

Our party of 7 met up in Pleasant Plains from Kansas and Ohio, and wanted to find a local place to eat. So glad we ended up at the Grainery! Bridget was an awesome host and server, so warm and friendly, and helped us feel at home. The food was delicious; most of us tried (and loved) the corn nuggets, and no one left any food on our plates from the variety of sandwiches we ordered. We were out of towners but felt welcomed like family. Thanks for a great experience!

We stopped by the Grainery on our way home from a track meet and were so glad we did! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the service was friendly and attentive, and the food really hit the spot. I had the Homemade Italian Beef, and it was absolutely awesome—tender, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Great little place that we’ll definitely be visiting again!
