Honestly expected more. Historic venue, lovely grounds..the scene was set for a fantastic and romantic dinner.
Upon entering it felt a little outdated. The clientele was very much an older generation (think 55+) and the staff were also more mature. These things aren’t negative as such, but helps establish the somewhat outdated feel and also very casual clothing from the dining population. I thought It would definitely be more upscale as a whole in both decor, appearance and clientele.
The atmosphere was comfortable with a nice energy though and was a plus.
The food however was quite mixed. I had the scallops with risotto and I will say the risotto was outstanding and the scallops beautifully made. However the asparagus and side of brussel sprouts were exceedingly bland.
The other dish ordered was the sea bass which unfortunately was just ok and perhaps didn’t meet the price tag associated with the meal, and again the accompanying vegetables were rather blah.
The dirty martinis were excellent though, but the draught list was rather limited.
All in all the restaurant was pleasant but for every positive, it seemed there was an equally average let down. We wanted to like the place more than we did and especially considering the prices, it didn’t seem to match.

Stopped in for Sunday Brunch. Great menu with standard classics and some new choices.

Inside a very rustic feel that was clean and well decorated.

Staff friendly and the service was great.

Really nice building and the food/drinks were good! Service was just alright, my brother got asked 4x to show his ID even though he was a groomsman…just seemed a bit unprofessional if you ask me given the amount you pay for weddings here. Even more upsetting was the changing room upstairs before the wedding had drinks that were all half used…you would think it would be fully stocked… the print outs for menus misspelled the brides name….and lastly the breakfast in the morning was just alright

Food was so so. I didn’t take any pictures, as the looks didn’t impress me. I had a burger. Asked for medium. It was came out well done. And even charred. So yeah. You can mess up a burger. My partner had a turkey club sandwich. He ate half and said it was good. Hence the 3 stars, not 2.

Service was slow. I wasn’t in a rush so it was ok. But waiting for the bill at the end seemed like an eternity. When the server came over and asked about dessert and coffee, I quickly replied that we just needed the bill. Since I was polite, she apparently didn’t pick up in the cue that I wanted to go because after dropping it off, I had to bring it to her with my card in the other dining room when I was tired of waiting. Nevertheless, she was pleasant but maybe had too many tables?

I haven’t been here in about 10 years. And I probably won’t be back for another 10…

Great easter day brunch at this place. I have been to this place couple of time. We had prefixed easter menu and it was amazing. All 4 courses were decent enough and entrees are significantly larger. I wish entrees could have been more flavorful. Our family had great family time with quality of food. Servers were amazing, polite and patience. Hence I am vegetarian, they were very accommodating about it. They were constantly checking in us about how are we liking it. Its an amazing historical building and one of the nicer family restaurants.

We’ve become weekly regulars here with our 3½ year old for the past two months, and it truly is the only place I enjoy taking her out to dinner (in large part to Dave and Laura)

This place has so much character. You can feel the history in the walls and the building itself. Our daughter loves talking to “George“ on the way in and in paintings throughout the restaurant. What really makes it special is the people… Dave behind the bar and Laura serving tables aren’t just great at their jobs. They’ve made us feel like family. They remember us (and more importantly our daughter) and they’re amazing with our daughter, and they bring a warmth to the experience that you just can’t fake. We really enjoy every meal but the drinks quite honestly are never a disappointment.

In a world of cookie cutter dining, finding a place with this much heart and authenticity near Morristown is rare. The staff here is exceptional and the kind of team that makes you want to keep coming back, not just for the food but for the experience.

We wanted to go somewhere “special” for New Year’s Eve, and we made reservations for dinner, at 7:15 p.m., for 12/31, and our reservations were made well in advance. The bartender wasn’t very friendly (almost rude), our server was ok (but slow and she had too many larger tables/parties which were more of a priority to her), and she was hacking and coughing all over the place (meanwhile, we just tested positive for COVID, and we weren’t around anyone else who was coughing near us)? Overall, we were highly disappointed with the dining experience, for such a nice place, in an affluent area, which has been here since the 1700’s… Even the dinner rolls came out cold, and one of them was wet? Honestly, the food wasn’t anything special at all (mediocre at best), and for the prices they charge, it should be! We won’t be returning again. Not the least bit recommended.

I recently had the pleasure of working as a photographer at The Grain House, located within the historic Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. I had the honor of capturing the beautiful wedding of Jodi and Nick, and I must say that the experience was nothing short of remarkable.

The Grain House is an absolutely breathtaking venue, with its rustic charm and elegant decor providing the perfect backdrop for any special occasion. The staff at the Grain House were incredibly professional and accommodating, ensuring that every detail was taken care of and that the bride and groom were able to enjoy their day to the fullest.

The Grain House’s attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the venue, from the stunning outdoor gardens to the beautifully appointed indoor spaces. The food was also exceptional, with a wide range of delicious options that catered to every guest’s taste buds.

Overall, I would highly recommend The Grain House to anyone looking for a stunning and unforgettable venue for their wedding or special event. It was truly a pleasure to work with such a talented and dedicated team of professionals, and I look forward to capturing many more special moments at The Grain House in the future.

We enjoyed a very nice lunch in a cozy, traditional atmosphere. Service was good, selection was excellent, the food tasty and well prepared. The dining room is conducive to conversation, so an excellent place to catch up with friends. Parking is very good. There is a slight grade to walk up, but there is no reason that you can’t drop members of your party at the door.
