My husband and I come here pretty often for date nights and usually have a great experience. We love the food and drinks, and the service is typically excellent, which is why we were surprised by our visit on New Year’s Eve. We came with two friends and unfortunately, our waitress seemed unpleasant from the moment we sat down. There were eye rolls when we took a little time to decide, which felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I completely understand that NYE is extremely busy, I’ve worked in restaurants myself—but the rudeness was disappointing, especially given how much we normally enjoy this place. We’ll still be back because this experience is not the norm, but it definitely put a damper on what should have been a fun night.

Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen is an awesome spot in Newark. The food is always solid and the drinks are just as good.
They have a great bourbon and beer selection, which makes it an easy place to settle in whether you’re grabbing dinner or just stopping for drinks. Everything feels well thought out without being pretentious.

We came here for brunch and wasn’t expecting anything special, but we were all pleasantly surprised with the restaurant overall, food and service.

Just walking in the first impression is this place has a lot of history, the first floor looks like a typical bar/restaurant type setup, with a ton of wall arts. There’s also an option to sit upstairs with semi-open air (Can be close using garage doors..yes garage doors), which we chose since it was a really nice day. Everything’s clean apart from the sticky tables.
…Also the check they give you at the end is in a book (Shown in the picture). Love the idea.

Our waitress is very friendly, attentive and helpful. No complains here.

What we order:
-Breakfast Burrito (Delicious)
-Crab Skillet (Very Delicious, highly recommended)
-Crab Toast Breakfast (Delicious)
-Smokehouse Skillet (Delicious)
Overall all of the food we ordered are cooked nicely and seasoned, and the portion is just perfect. I was a little worry with the price of crab dishes (being a bit low to me) that we would get either intimidation crab or not enough if it is real crab. The crabs are real and plentiful.
I was just telling my girlfriend how good the food is, and that we should go back for brunch again soon. Since there are a lot of other stores we can walk around and visit afterwards. I look forward to going back again.

Just had got done work realized there’s no food, I was looking through DoorDash saw grain. I wanted the nachos but felt bad cause the little timer said 1 min til their not taking orders, I felt terrible about it but I really wanted nachos I had the expectation of them being at least like half effort it was probably the last order, but man was I pleasantly surprised when I got them, they looked amazing and tasted even better the guac is crazy good too!!! If you got this far just order grain I’m telling you, you won’t regret it

After a long day at Longwood Gardens, we decided to stop here for dinner. This was probably around 10pm, so their hours where they serve food was almost over but they let us in anyway:)
The staff was great! The gentleman playing guitar was also very talented and brought a fun atmosphere.
The chicken sandwich was so good! Juicy and crispy chicken. My husband got the short rib sandwich- it was alright but not near as good as the chicken sandwich. We also really enjoyed their pretzel, super soft and the dips were really tasty. We tried their grain sauce, and it was pretty spicy!
Altogether somewhere to try out if you’re in the area.

We had a wonderful late night meal here and greatly enjoyed the live music! As other reviews said service was a bit suboptimal with our waitress being very friendly but not super attentive. Other than that, our meal was a stand out for our time in PA! Highly recommend their fancy grilled cheese, burgers, and cookie skillet.

We’ve loved this place since it opened many years ago. Last night was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant. We got there around 5:30 on a Saturday. Yea, it was busy, we waited about 5 minutes to sit. Waited awhile for the waitress who finally came over and said ‘I have to go take care of something and will be back for your order’. Waited. Came back for drink and appetizer order. Great. Drinks come, appetizer comes. Great. Oh? Hey? Can we get some water? Silverware? Napkins please? Then she comes for food order. Now, as we sat down, there were 3 other tables that came in after us. Who then proceeded to get their food orders. And eat, and finish their meal – all while we’re waiting for our meals. Not ONCE did the waitress come back to tell us the status of our food. In fact, circumvented our table every time she went to the kitchen. As we realized that the table next to us had gotten their check – we asked for a manager. It had been 45 minutes. Our waitress then came and said ‘I have no idea why it’s taking so long’…no attempt to take our empty appetizer dishes. Thank GOODNESS we ordered apps or we would have been even more hungry then we were. Manager comes – so sorry, comp meal – great. But I just want to leave we’ve been here an hour and a half. FINALLY the food comes – and I start to eat my potstickers – one had exploded on my plate. And the other had a long hair in it that I proceeded to pull out of my mouth. Okay, we’re done here. My daughter’s chicken fingers and fries looked worse than McDonald’s. I think my husband liked his streak. Then – because we’re adults and responsible and don’t want to just leave – we waited for someone to at least tell us that we could leave. About 20 minutes go by and the waitress said we could go. Walked by Manager – who never came back after our food finally arrived – and dismissed us as we walked out with ‘have a good night’. No, sorry, no anything. Yes, the food was comped – but watching all the tables around you get food after they came in after you…. Unreal. I left hungry – because, ew, hair – and pissed off. It was our favorite go-to in Kennett – but this place has really gone down hill. Never again.

Our waitress was dismissive, repeatedly forgot to bring our drinks, and failed to bring the water pitcher that was supposed to be placed on the table at the beginning. We waited over an hour for our food to be brought out and the waitress kept saying “it’s on its way” but never came. We offered to leave and just pay for the drinks after waiting over an hour for our food and Somehow the food was brought out immediately after asking for the bill. It was barely warm. besides the delays, there was a lack of professionalism. Every time we requested something, the waitress rolled her eyes and walked away, which made the entire table feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. This was a frustrating and disappointing experience. Poor service, unprofessional behavior, and excessive wait times ruined what should have been a simple dinner. 0 stars if I could.

Great brunch here! Wasn’t very crowded so we were able to grab a table no problem. Breakfast sandwich was great, my friends also enjoyed the Whiskey Burger and the Mushroom Mac & Cheese. Solid spot.
