Not to mention, she’s also a mother, and you could see so clearly how hard she was working at being two of the things that meant the most to her — a mother and a baker.
A couple of years later, her bakery opened, and I was so excited for her. Every time I make my way into her bakery, it feels like the most special treat. The atmosphere, the staff, the pastries, cookies, and cakes — all of it. It’s seriously so special.
Supporting places and people like this is so important. When I ordered my son’s 1st birthday cake, I didn’t think it could be more meaningful… but six years later, I am absolutely amazed by the growth of this precious little bakery.
So proud of you, Grain
Place is small, yet intimate. The bakery items are fresh made and absolutely delicious and made with the best ingredients as well as being gluten free so if you are a tight wad looking for a frosted donut drag your butt to Dunkin Donuts. If you want an amazing bakery experience, find your self a chair and order up!!!
Lauren has always crafted the highest quality baked goods with the best local ingredients. And while the prices of these goods may seem on the high end of things, she has always been transparent about why. She sources her ingredients from small farms and dairies. Her gluten free flour is the highest quality and isn’t something you just bulk order at Costco. Her goods reflect this quality and are absolutely worth the price.
Grain is also a cornerstone of the Snohomish community. They are people’s regular coffee spot, the place to grab a quick treat, and the place where people order their special celebration treats. From gender reveal cakes to Thanksgiving pies, Grain has been a part of our family table for 6 years. Come on in and enjoy a coffee, a scone, or grab a loaf of sour dough to eat throughout the week. You won’t be disappointed!
Unrelated to the business of a bakery one of the things I love that just also reflects the true heart of the owner and the staff is that this space was once a hardware store. And they have photos in the shop of what it once looked like. The tile and wood in there make it feel like they’ve held onto that heritage and created a bakery that might have existed in the downtown area back when that hardware store was there. It just feels magical and I love the nostalgia.
I follow them on Instagram for the daily offerings and community contributions, but also because the owner is super forthcoming about menu prices/ increases, and is vocal about the need for supporting small businesses, which I appreciate. In all honesty, the gentle reminder for me to support the places I want to continue going is sometimes needed.
The icing on the cake though (pun intended?), was when the government shutdown happened and food stamps were not funded, this little bakery offered free mini meals to people who needed to eat. EVERY. DAY. I don’t know what the profit margins are here, and I don’t care. I didn’t see anyone else offering that, and that commands so much respect.
I would be utterly heartbroken if Grain weren’t around anymore, and tasteless nerds who like to hate on places like this with no care of the repercussion to the business or community can, respectfully, pound sand. Sorry about your tastebuds homie(s), but let those of us with them have nice things, eh?
To the staff and owner, thank you for your contributions to this community. Restaurant work is HARD right now, and you guys are doing great. I love this place, and I love you guys. See you this weekend!
The staff are also great. My order got a little mixed up (switched the espresso types and put in to go cups), but the staff were super kind and righted it as soon as they realized.
I only tried their cardamom ginger molasses cookie sandwich (delicious and not too sweet), but I’ll absolutely be back to try some of their other gluten-free goodies!
Also got dairy free hot chocolate that was horrible and bitter even after asking for extra sugar; I do not recommend ordering this for a child. I will never order hot chocolate here as an adult either. The 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the hot chocolate being so very wrong.
