We stopped by Gozen Kamicha after dinner because I’d been wanting to try their matcha desserts for a while. But honestly, it was kind of hard to find. It’s located in an empty strip mall, and when we got there around 7 pm, the whole area was quiet and dark.
When we walked in, we realized we were actually the only customers there! It felt a little awkward at first because it was so quiet, but the place itself was clean and cozy.
I ordered the regular matcha ice cream, and my husband went with the sugar-free matcha latte. The ice cream had a nice matcha flavor, but it wasn’t as creamy as I was hoping for, it felt more icy than smooth. The latte was okay, not sweet, but nothing that really stood out either.
They do have a few other dessert items on the menu that looked interesting, so maybe we’ll come back to try those sometime. But if we do, I think we’ll definitely go during the day. The area just feels kind of creepy at night since everything around it is so empty.

We stopped by expecting to just buy some tea and were pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere is beautiful, it’s extremely clean and cozy. The staff were lovely and made the experience wonderful. I’ve never been a fan of matcha until I found this place!! The ice cream and tea was SO delicious. Finding out this was the only location in the U.S. was such a shock, especially for how great their pricing is! Such an amazing place to stop by for a treat, well worth the visit.
EDIT to say their tapioca (boba) was cooked perfectly! That is VERY difficult to achieve and notable enough that I had to add to this review. I’ve frequently visited Gozen since I found it, and the matcha is somehow better each time I go. I started buying the premium matcha latte to have a stronger tea flavor, so if you’re a fan of strong matcha, I highly recommend one of their premium drinks. I plan on buying the matcha powder directly from them once it’s restocked!! This is a lovely establishment with high quality food and drinks. Plus, the customer service is always amazing.

Even putting the name in Japanese (Gozen KAMICHA – high-quality, ‘royal’ grade of tea) doesn’t make this an authentic Kyoto Uji Matcha spot. For a ‘matcha specialty’ cafe, there’s nothing special about the flavor—honestly, Starbucks might even be a better bet for your money. The location is pretty sketchy, as it’s attached to a building under construction. The interior and seating aren’t comfortable enough to stay long.

Loved the matcha latte I got! This matcha was excellent and I’d definitely come back to try more things. They have quite the menu of different matcha items. It’s a cute spot inside but you wouldn’t know by the looks of the outside. They’re unfortunately in a location that seems rundown but looks like part of the plaza is going to get redone. Either way don’t let the outside fool you, this place is legit!

The Shizuoka Hojicha Roll Cake was soft with a deep roasted flavor, and the Uji Matcha Roll Cake had a rich, intense matcha taste — you can really tell they use high-quality ingredients.
The Tofu Pudding Matcha Latte was smooth and not too sweet — the tofu pudding added a nice texture. I also loved the Taiwan Green Tea, super refreshing with a clean, delicate finish.
I highly recommend the Gozen Classic Sundae — it’s the best ice cream I’ve ever had! The flavors are rich, the textures are layered and satisfying, and the sweetness is perfectly balanced — not too heavy at all. Absolutely worth a try!

Let me start off by saying the employees here were extremely nice and very helpful!! This matcha spot overall was pretty good. Not my personal favorite compared to other ones I have had but still a good option! Their matcha drinks are not very sweet, so if you do like your matcha less sweet then this place is perfect for you. If you prefer your matcha on the sweeter side definitely ask for extra sweetness. Really wanted to try their matcha roll cake, but they did not have it available. Looking forward to trying it next time!! Will be back soon 🙂

Matcha flavor was good, just a little sweet and a tiny bit bitter aftertaste. Same price but our cones seemed to have more than in the cup? A bit high priced for everyday. Service was okay, although a bit slow. Liked the employee tshirts as they had a different design for each person on the back. Capybara and saguaro were cute designs! Will come back again to try more from the menu!

I have come many times and each time I come the employees are also so nice and make you feel comfortable. All of the items on the menu are amazing, and they have such a large variety. The assistant manager Aaralyn was the one working last time I was there, and she did such a good job! I highly recommend checking the place out!! :))
