Been here a few times visiting up from Boston and I love the place. The first thing you see when you enter is the bakery. Everything in there is delicious. There are nights where they donate money to certain causes. The parking lot is pretty big and it is paved. It is handicap accessible, and there are bathrooms on the property. They do accept credit card. There’s Sunday all you can eat. Breakfast buffet is delicious. If you’re ever in old town, come meet here or check out the other governors locations across the state.

This restaurant serves wholesome home-style cooking. I had the pot roast and it was a generous serving of meat with a delicious broth. The coleslaw was good (they make sweet version not the vinegar). I also had a Chocolate Milkshake that was Delicious b/c it was Real Ice cream …really wanted to have their “Hot Fudge Bourbon Milkshake” ..but $11.. was justctoo steep.. The prices are higher than typical for someone who lives in the Southern USA.. They also have a Bakery with Pies, Cakes, Cookies and specialty treats (take one back to your kids after your date). They played good ole 1980’s Rock n Pop music, but neither it nor restaurant noise was too loud. I’m going back tomorrow for a slice of their Lemon-berry Cake!

We decided to head out for the comfort food buffet at the Old Town Governor’s Restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised at the choice of dishes that were out. Everything was hot and fresh and immediately replaced when low. The coleslaw was very tasty, but I do wish that they would include a lettuce salad. I am not really a sweets person, but the desserts included in the buffet were super good. All in all, very impressive for a buffet. We will be returning.

Kayla waited on us the morning of 10/27 for an early morning breakfast. She was very pleasant and cheerful! Service was prompt. In and out inside of 30 minutes!

Better than the normal fast food! They have plenty of room and so much to choose from. The baked good are amazing and fresh, while the sit down food choices are equally diverse. Everything we ate was prepared properly and delicious. The restaurant was pretty clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will add this to the places to stop in our travels.

Everything tasted so good! And the staff is super kind. P.s: the blueberry pancakes are HUGE.

Service was very good and the staff were attentive, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the food did not meet the same standard.
The Bloody Mary was passable, but it arrived with a celery stalk whose cut end was completely brown and dried out. That is basic garnish quality control, and it was honestly embarrassing to see in the drink.
The fried scallops were overwhelmingly salty. The salt completely dominated the dish to the point that the seafood itself was barely detectable. They were so salty I briefly mistook them for salted cod.
The crinkle-cut French fries were clearly industrial in nature and had almost no actual potato flavor. They appeared to be coated in a processed outer layer that added crunch but did nothing except absorb grease.
The coleslaw was mushy, bland, and excessively mayo-heavy, with no brightness or texture to balance it.
There is good service here, but the kitchen needs serious attention to ingredient quality, seasoning, and basic execution.
From a value standpoint, the pricing does not align with what was delivered. For $80, the expectation is either careful execution or house-made components. Instead, the meal relied heavily on industrial sides, suffered from basic quality control issues, and was undermined by severe over-seasoning. Even accounting for service and location, the overall experience felt significantly overpriced for the level of food provided. Better value would require noticeable improvements in ingredient quality, balance, and kitchen attention to detail. While the house-made rolls were a positive and appreciated touch, they were not enough to offset the broader issues with execution and ingredient quality.

Very nice restaurant. Staff was excellent. My husband enjoyed his lobster roll and it was his first time trying lobster bisque and he loved it. Said it was the perfect temperature. I had the hot turkey, dressing and fries with gravy. It was good.
Restrooms were clean and well stocked. We would return if ever in the area again.

I am told it is a tradition to go to Governor’s when going to Maine. It is a good tradition and when in the area, I will be visiting Governor’s again. The food is good, but driving over 200 miles, not so much. So, if you are in the area looking for a good place to eat… Governor’s is the place for you. As for the blueberry crumb pie I took home, it was amazing. Maybe it is good they are 200 miles away… because my sugar would through the roof.

This place was SOLID! We wanted a good but casual, family place for a birthday meal for a relative who suffers from Alzheimer’s… the staff was friendly, the seating clean & comfortable, and the food was really delicious (I got the Reuben- best I’ve had since Katz’s in NYC)! And the prices were incredibly reasonable (Cheeseburger & fries special for $6.99?!). Simply put- Governor’s delivered. Thank you- we’ll be back! 🙂
