Very small dining area but new and nicely decorated. Service is top notch. Enjoy!
My dining companion and I both ordered the lunch special, which had a reasonable price tag. However, the food quality was lacking. Our steamed entrees were nothing to rave about; the only highlight was the rice. Sadly, the vegetables and proteins were overcooked and mushy, and both soups we ordered tasted bland and oily. This was far from a gourmet experience. I genuinely believe that the restaurant needs to reevaluate its offerings. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend eating here.
I ordered the Chicken Dumplings and Szechuan Eggplant.
Here’s my breakdown:
(1) Ambiance – 1.5/5
Note that the restaurant closes between 3:00–4:00 PM, which is understandable since it’s typically a slow period. I arrived right at 4:00 PM and was immediately struck by how warm and lack of ventilation it was inside – it was a little bit suffocating. The server had to open the door to let cool air in. I genuinely wanted to leave right then and there, but decided to stick it out and try the food. I’m not sure whether the AC was working properly or it was only turned on, and I can only imagine how uncomfortable it must get during summer.
(2) Chicken Dumplings – 2/5
The dumplings were served warm but not hot, which was disappointing. They felt like they were made in a hurry — dim sum should always arrive hot and steamy. The taste also reminded me of something you’d pick up from a grocery store, which is never a good sign at a restaurant.
(3) Szechuan Eggplant – 3/5
The eggplant was decent but on the oily side. We only managed to eat a few pieces as it was really warm inside the restaurant. It became too unbearable to continue.
(4) Server – 4/5
The server was friendly and accommodating. Since we arrived right as they reopened at 4:00 PM, she likely needed time to get things ready for the dinner rush, so there was a bit of a wait. Understandable given the circumstances.
Overall: Would I come back? Probably not anytime soon. I was simply looking for a dim sum spot in Simi and this place had solid reviews, so I gave it a shot. In hindsight, it may have just been a matter of bad timing or ordering the wrong dishes.
PS. Took the pictures too late! It was half way done.
I feel the portion size, at least for the small, is decent for the price.
The dimsum I’ve had was pretty good. I liked the bao ,potstickers and shumai.
My son really likes steamed chicken and on our most recent visit they accommodated us on the request which i appreciate.
