I have seen this restaurant for some time but I never seem to be shopping at Essex Market after it opens.
Luckily I mad it there yesterday and it was wonderful.
There is only counter seating which at first seem surprisingly high till you get used to it. While you don’t get to watch the chef prepare your food when it’s presented there is a sense of wonder as several dishes are quite beautiful.
We only preferred one appetizer and sushi but it was all delicious and I will be back to try more. Much of the specials menu is fish imported from Japan.

Went after work with co-workers and had a great time. The staff and chef were very attentive and friendly. The omakase was incredible with a good variety of different fish that leaves you craving for more.

My son brought me to Gouie for my birthday. It may be a counter with a few seats, but the food and service were beyond outstanding!!!!! Sake tastings were incredible. The staff was beyond wonderful. The food…I cannot put into words how great the food was. Sad to see this place close at the end of this month. Somebody scoop them up and get them a place!!!! STAT!!!

A delicious sushi restaurant offering the cheapest omakase in the city. Starting at just $30 for a nice light lunch. Some of the a-la-carte specials are delicious as well although they start to rise in price. The uni is super creamy and fresh however and a great purchase.

New addition to Essex Market. The sushi set was amazing! Could really taste the quality in both the fish and the rice. For 30 dollars, I think it is well worth the money and some of the best sushi I’ve had in NY and in Japan for the price. The matcha nigorisake latte was also heavenly on a cold day. I cant wait to come back!

Had a fabulous lunch here!!! Food was immaculate and the service was polite and kind. Fresh, and fairly priced, super authentic. We enjoyed a glass of sake, perfectly balanced miso, the Nami chefs tasting plate, and highly recommend the homemade goma tofu! We wrapped up with matcha ice cream.

Stopped in on a whim after a nearby event and was pleasantly surprised – and quite impressed – with the sushi at this Essex street spot. The portions are normal, not oversized, and the quality is very very good. They also have a good sake list.

My partner and I were eating a few things around Essex Market for lunch and our top spot was here. The miso-glazed black cod was especially flavorful and delicious. The customer service was great. Will come back on our next trip into the city
