We visited on a Saturday around 2pm without a booking and were lucky to get a table, though it’s definitely worth reserving in advance as the place gets very busy. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our visit.

My wife ordered the udon and I had the tonkatsu ramen, along with miso soup and green tea. The miso soup was quite good, but we were surprised to find lettuce in both the ramen and the katsu udon. My wife lived in Japan for five years, and she mentioned that lettuce isn’t something you’d typically find in authentic ramen or udon dishes. Because of that, the noodles were a bit disappointing for us, as we were hoping for a more traditional Japanese flavour.

We might try the sushi on our next visit to see how it compares, but based on this experience, the ramen and udon didn’t quite meet our expectations for authenticity.

Popped in for lunch today and it was excellent! Nice and quite as I got there just as they opened. I had the chicken Karaage, Tonkotsu Ramen and some plum wine and it was all delicious!

One of the best places to eat in exeter. The staff are delightful, polite and kind. The restaurant itself is always a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, very well-decorated. The food itself is fantastic too, i usually get the seafood ramen and its never failed to satisfy. Worth going to AT LEAST once if you’re ever in the area.

I highly recommend everyone to try this Japanese restaurant if you’re in the area. The food is incredibly fresh and delicious, and the service is warm and friendly, making you feel as if you’ve been transported to Japan. We had dinner here for two consecutive nights, and every dish was absolutely delightful. Our whole family loved it and thoroughly enjoyed dining here. The restaurant is very popular, so be sure to make a reservation in advance.

A truly authentic Japanese meal. Me and my two sons had ramen today and the flavours were divine. Portions size is great, it’s filling and good quality. The kids now prefer here to Wagamammas, and they’re hard-core fans. My son has tried the sushi before and loved it, he’s a real critique for sushi as well. The staff are lovely as well.

We have been a few times and never had a bad meal.
Can really reccomend the chicken kara age and the sushi platters. The beef fillet katsu is great as well if you like a bit of spice.

Service was amazing we had our order taken quickly and the starters soon followed.

I tried both the Katsu Curry Rice and the Tonkotsu ramen both were amazing and very filling! The tasty warm curry with the rice felt like being hugged by my mother after a rainy day

The house sake was nice and I also had chicken karaage for starter which was also really nice.

Overall a great experience and I’ll definitely come back to Goto next time I’m in Exeter

Absolutely amazing experience!

Small restaurant with lovely atmosphere.
Food was to die for! I didn’t get the chance to take photos of our starters… They disappeared so fast!
We had chicken Kara and chicken dumplings to start, together with Nakata Japanese Plum Wine and Pinot Grigio for my partner.
For our mains we’ve chosen chicken curry ramen and a lot of sushi!
We had Salmon Mango Sushi Roll, Spicy Tuna, Black Tiger Tempura Prawn, California Roll and Salmon Avocado Roll!
We’ve tried Takara Plum Wine as well!
Everything was extremely fresh and simply delicious!
Our favourite was Salmon Mango Sushi roll and Nakata Plum wine.
There are sooooo many options to choose from! We can not wait for our next visit! Service was spot on! Very friendly and polite staff!

Will be returning and recommending to everyone!

Thank you so much Goto!

Goto is a great little Japanese restaurant, I think probably the best in Exeter although there’s 1 more I still have to try. I went here for a nice lunch and had 3 courses of fried tofu, chicken dumplings and salmon sushi, finally a seafood noodle soup. This was served with Japanese green tea. I was really impressed with the restaurant, the service was quick and very friendly and helpful. The decor features interesting Japanese style art and murals on the wall. The food was all delicious, particularly I have to give the thumbs up to the sushi, easily the best sushi I’ve had in Exeter, and the seafood broth was delicious. On the entrance door there is an impressive list of accolades and awards the restaurant has won. The restaurant, staff and food comes across as a 5 star authentic Japanese experience, and if you’re a fan of Asian cuisine then I fully recommend wandering down Fore Street to give this one a try.
