Absolutely excellent! From the drinks, to food, to service, to ambiance, very very impressed and would highly recommend! We went on a Thursday night and it was quite busy so I recommend a reservation. Our server, Brooke, was delightful and made excellent recommendations, as well as very attentive (but not overly attentive). Loved every minute of it. A great diamond in the rough!

That fish fry. Holy smokes that fish fry.
(See the meme for the full experience when I read the menu)

We’d heard from literally every single business owner we chatted up in Bayfield, that we needed to go to Good Thyme for dinner. That the menu had been redone and there was a new chef / owner since last we passed thru (over 3 years ago).

It was worth staying longer for dinner on our way back home. It is the best fish fry in the state of Wisconsin. I got emotional. My eyes welled up with happy tears.

We will be back and you should go asap.

** we did not go with a reservation, and arrived right at 5 pm. We got seats at the bar which are first come, first served**

My gielfriend and I were in the area for the weekend. We didn’t know where to eat. We took a shot with Good Thyme on a Saturday night jist before 7pm. When we arrived the parking lot was pretty crowded so we figured that is a good sign as the food must be good but a bad sign they might not have seating for us. We got to the door and there was a sign on the door recommending reseevations. Our hearts sunk a little. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman at the door. We could see most of the tables were occupied. With there being reservations recommended, the very few open tables were probably reserved. We asked if they have room for a walk in. He offered us the bar top. We usually dont like eating at the bar but the bar had very few people there. So we sat at the bar. The bar tender was friendly and took our order. We each ordered the ribeye. The drinks were very good as we waited for the food. With how busy it was, the food arrived surprisingly fast. I cook steaks pretty often and receive many compliments from whoever eats them. The steaks that we had, I would have been very proud of. They were simply phenominal. The atmosphere was great. The restaurant is set inside an older home that has been beautifully remodeled inside. It was a great experience and we will be back when we are back in the area. Great place!

Wow! We are so glad we got to eat at Good Thyme during our stay! We did not make a reservation but we were still able to get bar seating- there were about 15 chairs at the bar so plenty of room. The food was incredible! We shared the chipotle steak bites and the potstickers as an appetizer. For dinner, I got the pecan crusted halibut and then for dessert, the ice-cream cookie sundae. Reservations are strongly encouraged, but this place is well worth the wait and will not disappoint!

Good Thyme, your cook is too salty for my taste

I am writing to share feedback regarding a dining experience at your restaurant during a family reunion/ my birthday. While our waitress was absolutely amazing and did everything in her power to salvage the evening, the behavior of the kitchen staff and the quality of the food were deeply disappointing.

I have a background in high-end restaurants, so I understand the pressure and what takes place behind the scenes. However, what I experienced was a blatant refusal to honor a simple request. I ordered my steak medium-well to well-done. I understand this may not be a chef’s preference, but it is how I enjoy my meal. When the steak arrived undercooked, I sent it back. My brother-in-law also had to send his pork back as it was served significantly undercooked.

The response from the kitchen was unprofessional. When my plate was returned, the steak had clearly been cut into and then simply thrown back on the grill and placed under a warmer. The potatoes and Brussels sprouts underneath were reduced to mush. To be served a steak that has already been cut into is something I find unacceptable at any establishment, let alone one of your caliber.

I felt terrible for our server, who was visibly distressed by the tension coming from the kitchen. She was kind enough to comp several drinks and even provided a personal bottle of wine because she recognized that the meal served to me was beneath any professional standard.

We traveled from across the country—and as far as Brazil—to celebrate my birthday and gather for the first time in twelve years. It is unfortunate that a narcissistic refusal to follow a ticket order turned a special family evening into a situation where I ultimately went home and ordered a pizza because my meal was inedible.

I’m attaching the photo I took after it was served to me a 2nd time. I was told to cut though the steak, the first time to make sure it wasn’t “too pink” in the middle.
After it was served again, I took a small bite, as the server requested to see if it was satisfactory. Seeing how limp the asparagus was, how mushy the potatoes, looked? I lost my appetite immediately. If the back-staff would have, in the very least, provided me with a new bedding of vegetables, I wouldn’t have written this review. What I ordered, isn’t what I received. It was a shock to see a half cut open steak reseeved. It’s truly disheartening and disgusting to serve this meat on the same platter that was sitting under a heating lamp the entire time.

I am sharing this after speaking with an owner of a restaurant where I live and showed him this photo. He opened my eyes because, if I didn’t make a review, perhaps you’d be unaware of the egregious behavior taking place at the back of the house, which overshadows how amazing the front-house wait staff are. The wait staff can only do so much and I didn’t come to converse with them. I came for the food and left with a bitter taste.

I believe you should know how the conduct in your kitchen is impacting your front-of-house staff and your guests’ experiences. I truly hope this feedback is taken constructively to ensure other families don’t have their celebrations ruined in the same manner.

Do better,

Kari-out

I am here to add to the long list of amazing reviews for this place— believe them all! The service, atmosphere, and food were all absolutely stellar. My husband got the Parmesan encrusted ribeye and I got the prawn piccata with chorizo. Both were otherworldly in their excellence. The lemony brightness of the piccata was perfectly balanced by the smoky roundness of the chorizo, accented by the salty capers and creamy smashed reds. The ribeye was mouth-wateringly tender and incredibly flavorful. Crème brûlée topped with a fruit compote was the perfect ending to what was easily one of the best meals we ever had. Three cheers to the owner Ben for creating an environment where good people thrive creating beautiful experiences for their guests. Anna our server was also wonderful. We plan to return!

Went here to watch an outdoor play. Looked at the menu beforehand. Amazing! Walked inside to check out what they did with the house and it also was amazing! Planning to eat there next time we’re in the area.

We luckily got to try the Good Thyme restaurant for a family of dinner of six when we were in Wisconsin. We had a phenomenal experience! The restaurant has a warm atmosphere with a very friendly staff. We ate at the bar and Chris the bartender took great care of us. Good Thyme tries to use locally sourced ingredients and food for their meals. For an appetizer we had the pot stickers and the Quattro Formaggi Crostini’s and they were excellent! The dinner came with a house salad with a special house dressing, which everyone enjoyed. They have many great dinner entrees. I had the ribeye and it was prepared perfectly and it had a savory taste. I really enjoyed it. We tried the crème brûlée for dessert and it was fantastic! By the time we left it didn’t seem like there was an empty table in the restaurant. We were delighted and fortunate to have found this gem of a restaurant in Wisconsin.

First of all make sure you have a reservation. Bar seating is first come first serve. Good Thyme in my opinion is the best 5 star restaurant in the Chequamegon Bay area. The food was great in both presentation and taste. Service was top notch. Absolutely will be back.
