Reviews
The drink menu is impressive, featuring a variety of craft cocktails, beers, and wine options. The bartenders are friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to recommend drinks.
The staff is attentive and genuinely friendly, which adds to the overall positive experience. Whether you’re popping in after work or catching up with friends, Good Neighbor provides the perfect backdrop for relaxed conversations and good times.
Additionally, the ambiance is lively yet intimate, making it suitable for both casual hangouts and special occasions. It’s a great addition to Sacramento’s nightlife scene.
Overall, Good Neighbor deserves a visit for its excellent drinks, welcoming atmosphere, and friendly service. A true gem in Sac that promises a great time.
Atmosphere:
Walking in, it is slightly confusing. There’s an entrance from the street and an entrance from the side patio. The entrance from the side patio is where you’ll want to go because it leads you toward the check in counter whereas the entrance from the street will lead you to the bar and when the bartender tried to direct me to the counter, he was rather vague and I couldn’t tell where I was actually supposed to go. The check in counter is located in the back of the restaurant which seems counterintuitive. Eventually, I figured it out, but I wish maybe there was a sign above the check in counter or something that could lead you to it easier. That’s truly my ONLY gripe about this place.
Service: I came in for lunch and the service was quick. I’m unsure how I feel about the cube they put out at the table for service and to pay to make the experience more convenient, but I will say it’s not inconvenient.
Food: The food came out fast and was hot and fresh. I ordered the fritto misto and the mushroom pizza.
Fritto Misto: I’ve never had a fritto misto before, but all I can say is GET IT. The shrimp was juicy, the calamari was perfectly fried and not rubbery, the leeks, olives, lemons, etc were crispy, everything was seasoned to perfection, and nothing on the plate was soggy. The aioli served on the side for dipping is the perfect pairing.
Mushroom pizza: I’ve had my fair share of pizza in downtown sac and this is for sure up there. The crust was baked well and crispy; no burnt or soggy bottoms here. The flavors were rich and reminiscent of french onion soup. Innovative or mindblowing? No, I wouldn’t say so, but it’s certainly delicious and with many local pizza restaurants in sac only specializing in pizza and a few other items, you’d be surprised that this restaurant, with its wide variety in their menu can pull off a pizza that rivals some of the mainstays.
Overall, I left my lunch totally satisfied and excited to eat my leftovers. I’ll definitely be coming back to try some other menu items.
Since it was our first time, my friend and I decided to splurge, and we ordered a little bit of everything. To start, we ordered the mushroom arancini, Pave fries, and a chopped salad. The mushroom arancini were crispy perfection and full of flavor. The Pave fries were unique and something I had never tried before. And the chopped salad helped to balance our meal with some greens.
For the rest of our meal, we decided to sample a fennel sausage pizza and a wild mushroom pizza. Both had perfectly thin crust that held up well to their toppings.
Despite being sad to see Beast & Bounty go, I am thrilled that something as delicious as Good Neighbor took its place.
