5 Stars – The Best Brisket Sandwich I’ve Ever Had (And a Wild Story to Go With It)
This is one of those stories that makes you believe in perfect timing.
I was on my way from McAllen to San Antonio, driving through unfamiliar towns, and I happened to be passing through Premont. I didn’t even realize where I was until I started Googling, “Where is Premont?” and sure enough, I was already in it.
Right then, out of nowhere, my buddy Isaac messaged me. He said you wanted to catch up and added, “If you’re ever in Premont, you’ve got to stop by.” He had no idea I was already there. Total coincidence — or maybe something more.
Earlier that morning, I had sent my girlfriend a photo of a brisket sandwich for breakfast. She replied with a picture of one, and that instantly made me hungry. Fast forward a bit, I meet up with Isaac at his ranch — and without me saying anything — he tells me, “You have to go down to Gonzolitoz and try their brisket sandwich.”
I didn’t mention food, brisket, or even that I was hungry and yet that’s what he said.
It felt like the whole moment was meant to happen, like I was being led to this exact experience.
And let me tell you, that sandwich? It was absolutely next level. Smoky, tender brisket, loaded with flavor, topped with pickles, jalapeños, onions, sauce! Every bite hit like a reward from the universe. This wasn’t just a good brisket sandwich… it was the best I’ve ever had.
So if you’re ever driving through South Texas or even remotely near Premont do yourself a favor and go to Gonzolitoz and do what I did ask them to make the best brisket sandwich you’ve ever had. This place isn’t just food, it’s a whole experience waiting to happen.

Hadn’t stopped by this place since the 90’s. Back in the Day we use to stop and buy a hamburger or brisket sandwich. I happened to pass by so I made a stop. The brisket sandwich was good and the store seems to have almost anything you may need for working out on the lease or ranch. If you’re in the area, Stop By.

Best country store around! They have everything you may want or need. From bristket tacos to bulk feed and hunting supplies. Lets not forget the friendliness of the owners. They are absolutely amazing. A MUST stop when/if your in the area.

I come for the brisket tacos. I get em ‘all the way’ with onions, pickles and barbecue sauce and they’re delicious. I think they used to be bigger but with inflation I guess they had to cut back a little. Whatever, it’s still a great taco. They also have other menu items like cheeseburgers and stuff, all homemade in the back by mama.
You can also get deer corn, feeder batteries and other hunting related basics for your lease here. And of course gas and diesel.

I’m 70, live in the RGV, retired and ride a motorcycle. Recently, I motored to San Diego, Tx., stopped here at Gonzalitos and ordered a burger. Wow! Great burger! Old fashioned country store in the middle of nowhere, young friendly people minding the store. I intend to return soon for the cuisine. Thank u.
