This place serves burgers that arrive looking like they could bench-press your car—the size of manhole covers – impressively massive, the kind of patty that makes you question portion control and your life choices
But bite down and… yep, disappointing Sahara-level disappointment. The only moisture at the table is your tesrs. The patty has been grilled so long it’s basically auditioning for a role as ancient beef jerky. It’s been cooked and smashed to the exact hydration level of a Saharan dune on July 4th at high noon. We’re talking desert-dry “I forgot what moisture tastes like” territory
It’s so overdone it could double as a hockey puck in the Stanley Cup finals—if the puck had the personality of a sad, $24 regret
Pricing remains a crime scene:
– Double bacon cheeseburger: $24 (yes, you read that right—your wallet just filed for divorce and your bank account just sent you a strongly worded text)
– Single: $17 (congratulations, you’ve been mugged but only halfway, (still highway robbery, just with fewer accomplices)
**New special feature unlocked:** Cash. Only. Cash!!! No cards, no Apple Pay, no Venmo, no “I’ll get you next time, bro.” They look plastic like it personally insulted their grandma. So before you roll up dreaming of that towering burger, do a sacred wallet check—count the dead presidents like you’re prepping for a black-market deal
Service? Still operating on “geological time.” Bring snacks and patience… and maybe a pillow, book, a podcast… Let’s just say “eventually” is the house motto
Verdict: Points for sheer burger mass and sheer audacity, but massive deductions for dehydrating the cow, highway-robbery pricing, glacial service, and turning “paying for food” into a wallet emptying cash-only surprisese
Stop dehydrating the cow and knock a few bucks off it would be a hit. Until then… proceed with caution, an extra $50 in folding money, and understand that this place prioritizes expensive bulk over flavor

I’ve heard of this place for several years but never quite made it there. Either it was closed or I was working. Regardless, we finally had a chance to go on a chilly Saturday. We could see that it was busy with all the cars outside. Let me just say, the wait was all worth it! The burgers were huge and perfectly made. The meat was sooo tasty and the veggies were fresh. Unfortunately, the pics don’t do it justice. Be sure to bring cash, and plenty of it. Food is pricy.

Loved this burger place!! Don’t expect great decor or ambiance just great food!! Gigantic burger left no room for the sides but that didn’t stop us from trying their fries and onion rings!! The meat is so delicious!!! Everything was great!!! If you are a local expect a large lunch rush because our winter Texans love this joint!!!! Can’t wait to come again!!

Its not bad but its not great especially for the price. The meat doesnt have much flavor. Its just a standard burger prepared a little differently. The fries are decent but not a reason to come here just for that. Payed 70$ for two double cheeseburgers, one single cheeseburger and two 5$ fries. If this price was cut in half I would give it a higher rating but its just too much money and such a long wait for a burger that doesnt have much to write home about. My mom actually hated it and she eats mcdonalds if that means anything. She did not like the texture of the meat.

This place is iconic, and even though there’s no sign anymore, you can tell this place is a hotspot. Meat quality was excellent, and the size of the burger was immensely satisfying. Top that off with buttered and toasted buns, tasty fries, and a vintage atmosphere that’s getting harder to find as the years pass by. I would definitely come here again (but earlier!). Be prepared to wait a while if you come in after 12, but you’ll be glad you stayed.

We heard about Gonzales burgers from a friend who said that they’re the best and biggest burgers around.
We arrived about 20 minutes before they opened and there was already a lineup at the door.
When they did open, it was mayhem as all of the people pushed their way in, mostly winter Texans like ourselves. I almost got pushed to the ground by the old men pushing and shoving their way to the counter, and the wives did the same thing to grab a table. Just ridiculous.
Had to explain twice to the guy behind the counter what I wanted as he really didn’t seem too interested in taking orders. 45 minutes later, I finally received my burger and onion rings.
The burger was very large but quite bland tasting. The rings were very good. The price is excessive for what you get.
Frankly, this place seems more like a “fad” just to say you went for a large, overpriced burger.
There are many more restaurants in the area that have better tasting burgers at decent prices.
The best one that we found is Buckhorns in Edcouch on hwy 107. They have a burger special on Wednesday’s that’s excellent.
We would not recommend Gonzales.

Good size burger, but you pay for it. 16 dollars for a burger with cheese no side. Homemade burgers with good taste and fresh toppings. Small menu with only fries and onion rings. No debit or credit cards, only cash is accepted. There are no signs on the outside, so it’s hard to find. Closed for the summer only open in the winter and only open 11am – 3pm. Limited seating and parking.

First time here, there was a line, but I understand why…the food was delicious and you definitely get your money’s worth. Not from this side of town, but highly recommend trying once, if you’re in the area. This was just the double meat, double cheese, double bacon. I didn’t even finish half, it was massive!

From the moment I walked in, I had a feeling this place was going to be special. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the kind of restaurant where you immediately feel comfortable settling in for a good meal. I went straight for the cheeseburger with bacon, and honestly, I’m glad I skipped breakfast because this thing is massive in the best possible way. The burger arrived piled high, with thick, hearty cuts of bacon that were cooked perfectly—crispy on the edges and full of flavor. The patty itself was the real star. The seasoning was spot-on, giving the meat a rich, satisfying flavor without overpowering it. What really impressed me was just how juicy the burger was. Every bite had that perfect balance of texture and flavor that’s surprisingly hard to find, even at places known for their burgers. The sides held their own too. Both the fries and onion rings were fresh, crispy, and clearly made with care. They weren’t an afterthought, which says a lot about the overall quality of the kitchen. And speaking of quality—after I finished eating, I found out that the restaurant grinds its meat in-house every morning. That little detail explains a lot about the freshness and flavor of the burger. I even tried to dig into the secrets of their burger recipe, but the staff—who were incredibly friendly, by the way—kept those details locked up tight. Still, the service added to the experience. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there, and that attitude carries over to the energy of the restaurant. After 44 years of eating burgers all over the place, I can confidently say this one ranks at the very top of my list. Between the flavorful, juicy meat, the perfectly cooked bacon, and the welcoming atmosphere, this restaurant delivers a burger experience that’s hard to beat. I’ll absolutely be back—and next time, I might come hungry enough to try more of their menu.
