Reviews
Before we get into the review, the owners and everyone running the business are the sweetest bunch. They will make sure you feel at home.
This restaurant is situated in the back of a gas station and in between their car wash. It is very hard to miss when driving by that road.
Food is proper. We tried almost everything on their menu and it was great. I almost cried when I heard they had Kolija Shingara and the first thing I did was get 2 of those and milk tea. Proper deshi feels. We tried too many stuff and genuinely impressed with it all. If I had to nitpick, consider finishing off Tehari with some mustard oil for the aroma <3 Spice level is BANGLADESH hot and it is spicy for the average American palette.
Service was lightning quick and their hospitality is top tier. As soon as you order, someone is walking past the counter with your food in a cute circular tray. I wish them well and hopefully they can run the show for many years to come.
If you’re craving bold spices, smoky aromas, and food that tastes like your back home kitchen, Golpo Sholpo is where you need to be. Nestled in a cozy corner of route 50 & Majestic ln, this unassuming spot packs a punch with every bite. we recently stop by with few friends and let me tell you my taste buds are still celebrating.
Let’s start with the Liver Samusa, Crispy golden pastry gives way to a rich, spiced minced liver filling, warm, earthy, and perfectly seasoned with cumin, garam masala, and a hint of green chili. It’s bold, it’s different, and honestly? I’d fight someone for the last piece. Served with tangy tamarind chutney, it’s a game-changer.
Fuchka that made me close my eyes and say “Ahhhh” Light, crackly fuchka (pani puri ) filled to the brim with spiced potato, chickpeas, and doused in Tamarind with a kick that sneaks up on you. The tamarind liquid was perfectly balanced sweet, sour, and spicy in one explosive mouthful.
And then… the Tehari (Beef Biryani”. OMG Tender, fall-off-the-bone beef slow-cooked in aromatic basmati rice, layered with caramelized onions, fresh mint, and just the right amount of rose water. Every grain soaked in flavor, with a subtle smokiness that tells you this was made with hug on a plate! The meat was melt-in-your-mouth, and the spice level? Just enough to warm your soul without burning your insides. Served with a side of cool raita and a boiled egg, it’s a complete experience. This biryani isn’t just food—it’s *therapy*.
Finally, Golpo Sholpo doesn’t just serve tea—they serve “moments”. It’s cheap, it’s fast, it’s hot, and it’s real. Whether you’re recovering from last night’s biryani coma or just finished a 12-hour shift, this street chai will set you right.
### Vibe & Service
The place is small between a gas station, with Desi beats playing softly in the background. The staff? Super friendly, and they actually *listen* when you ask for something. Bonus: they pack takeout beautifully, so your biryani arrives intact and steaming.
### Final Verdict: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
Golpo Sholpo nails it with bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and dishes that feel like Bangladesh. even if you’ve never been to the subcontinent. Whether you’re a pani puri pro (fuchka”, a biryani connoisseur, or just brave enough to try liver samusa, this spot deserves a spot on your must-eat list with family or friends.
Every item we had was so delicious that we decided to order some for home also. The complimentary Aam Vorta, was fantabulous. I wish to visit again soon, InshaAllah, and I was amazed by the hospitality of the restaurant and staff.
A special mention to the young girls who were serving—so polite, warm, and attentive, which really made the experience even more enjoyable. Golpo Sholpo has a wonderful homely vibe, and we’ll definitely be coming back!
Tehari – 10/10
Rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. Easily one of the best Teharis you’ll find outside Bangladesh.
Fuchka – 10/10
Crisp shells, bold masala, perfect tang. An instant favorite.
Moglai Porota – 10/10
Soft, flaky, and full of flavor. Exactly how a Moglai should taste — crazy good.
Try the Haleem as well if you love it spicy. Overall, majority of the items are crazy delicious.
Golpo Sholpo delivers that true Puran Dhaka taste, and every dish hits the mark. Being born and raised in Puran Dhaka, I missed the taste so much. They are crazy good.
The first and most important part of a restaurant experience is the initial interaction with customers, and this is where they completely failed. We stood at the front reception for about 4–5 minutes. The receptionist was present, clearly saw us, but paid no attention at all. He was busy gossiping with a woman beside and showing something on his phone. There were no other customers in line, just us. Not even a simple greeting, acknowledgment, or request to wait for a moment. This felt extremely unprofessional and disrespectful.
Even while taking our order, there was no apology or acknowledgment of the delay. This behavior reflects very poorly on the restaurant’s etiquette and customer service standards. It’s disappointing to see such treatment, especially within our own community. Customer handling seriously needs improvement.
As for the food: we ordered beef tehari. The taste was average. The portion size of rice and meat was decent, but the potatoes were not properly cooked. Our takeout order took over 30 minutes, which felt excessive considering the situation.
Good food alone is not enough if customers are not treated with basic respect. Customer service is the biggest area they need to work on. This lack of professionalism is something that many Asian restaurants still need to improve compared to American restaurants.
I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and trains their people better.
