I’ve been visiting this ice cream shop for a while now!
The food. The specials they have going all the time.
Pretty sweet place to stop and grab a bite to eat! Fresh pie oh yeah
They have a drive through, you can order online and swing through.
Reasonable pricing.
I’ve been trying to get through every item on their menu!
The dining area allows you to look out the window and see everyone coming and going.
A small counter upfront for you to sit at and enjoy the daily chit chat of how things are going.
People sharing memories, and the history of Prairie City!
The pineapple twister with cake batter is one of my favorites!
Support your local communities and the businesses within them.
Thank you!

This is probably THE best diner I have ever been to! Their food is amazing! And at really good prices for the quality of items. Service is incredible and so personal! Can’t wait to come back for the ice cream! ⭐️

This place is a must-visit if you crave kind customer service, a simpler venue, and terrific food. Prairie City’s gift to all of us! Different types of seating – booths, indoor patio, and the counter. Great food and seriously good ice cream. Drive-through window also. Thanks to Sandy for such great service to us rookies! Loved the pork tenderloin sandwich.

Since we haven’t been there in awhile, Pam suggested we take a run out to Goldie’s Ice Cream Shop in Prairie City, which isn’t very far from Newton.
It was around 1:00 Tuesday when we arrived, we were lucky to find one spot to park. The place was packed but we found a couple stools and set at the counter, which was comfortable. The servers quickly took our orders, as busy as they were we were shocked at how quickly our food arrived. Pam had the large cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped dog and a side of onion rings, she loved the dog but I can’t describe it because she didn’t offer me a sample but ate the whole thing herself lol. I ordered the tenderloin sandwich which was voted best in Iowa. After my first bite I can certainly see why it won. I grew up eating countless tenderloins so I do know a thing or two about them. My Grandmother was Millie the original founder of Millies Drive In Restaurant in Des Moines, people still reminisce about those iconic loins. My Goldie’s loin was clear off the charts awesome, a wonderful, tender, exceptional cut of pork, simply mouthwatering, in fact I can hardly wait for an excuse, actually any excuse to return. Oh, I nearly forgot to mention the chocolate malt which took me back to my childhood when malts were really good.
I give Goldies my coveted empty plate award, yes it’s really that good and then some.

Disappointed in experience after making the drive from Waukee. Ordered at the table in the back room.. food took 25 minutes to arrive at the table. Drink cups weren’t with order so we had to track those down ourselves because the gal working never came back after saying she’d get them for us. Two soda flavors were out and no one around to help switch out the lines. Chairs in back room are so uncomfortable and all metal in a concrete floor room made for a very LOUD lunch. The tenderloin was massive and pretty good. Sat on top of fries so those got soggy and tasteless. Ice cream was awesome but overall not worth the 45 min+ drive from Des Moines metro.Disappointed in experience after making the drive from Waukee. Probably one of my top picks to get a tenderloin from cooked perfectly, and delicious ice-cream

The family and i tried this while on vacation the weekend before Tulip Festival in Pella IA and were impressed with the food but not with the wait time for the food.
This restaurant is an order at the counter, then wait for your food type place. We had a table of 4 adults and 1 child and ordered 3 different entrees: 2 tenderloin sandwiches with crinkle cut fries, chili cheese fries, and a kids meal. We also order one strawberry shake.
The total wait was probably close to 40min or more. For fried food, I probably wouldn’t go again unless I felt like the wait was going to be a lot less.
The tenderloin was good, and the fries were crispy and seasoned. Sadly, the wait was just too long for the type of food it is.

Pulled off 163 on our way to Pella looking for a bite to eat. I was with family from Iowa and as soon as they heard this place serves fried pork tenderloin, they said I had to try it.
The staff was immediately welcoming and handed us menus right away. Since it was our first time the waitress guided us through the menu to some of their more popular sides. Before finding a seat I stopped in the restroom and although it was very small, it was clean and well maintained.
THE FOOD! The tenderloin sandwich was HUGE, fried to perfection, and very juicy. We got three side orders: the spicy cheese curd bites, Goldie’s fries, and Goldie’s smothered fries with cheese and bacon – all served with homemade ranch. The cheese curds had the perfect amount of kick, and the fries were nice and crispy.
Highly reccommend stopping by!

Great food …. fries portion was a little small for the price but… I got the chili cheese fries and the chili was amazing so still worth it … I appreciated the chili being on the side so it didn’t make the fries soggy. The cheese burger was fairly priced and had good flavor to it with freash tomatoes and lettuce. Overall 5 star experience. Food was done fast. Staff was friendly. The atmosphere was like a blast from the past and the dining area was clean. I will be back next time I am in Prairie City.

Went in for a family Christmas dinner on a Tuesday night. There were 9 of us. Waited for almost an hour for our food and did not come out all at the same time. Talked with many of the different workers there and no one really seemed to care. Terrible service. Hamburger was mid level at best. Goldie’s fries were good. Did not stick around for ice cream. A lot of people rave about this place but I won’t be back.
