I’ve always loved the food and shrimp fried rice is my favorite dish for just a quick meal, but unfortunately it was just fried rice with a few little bits of egg and veggies… I know it’s fried “rice” but usually there are other things and not just straight up rice with sauce and shrimp.. just sayin is all

We ordered beef pad thai and shrimp fried rice. The food here is really good, and the guy at the register, who seem like the owner, was really nice and welcoming. It didn’t take that long to get our food.

I started going to this restaurant in 2011 with a hope just to find okay Thai food as Urbana-Champaign are not big cities like Chicago where you can find authentic Thai food. But I was surprised how great the food was. I ordered Kana Moo Krob (Chinese broccoli with crispy pork belly) and three flavored fried fish. These dishes were so tasty that I went back there soooooo often (for some other dishes too). How often? Probably over 400 times in 6-7 years I was in Champaign.
The owners are super nice. Service was quite fast. One of my most favorite restaurants of all time.
P.S. These pictures were taken when I went back to Champaign the first time after I graduated. I went there 3 times during a 40-hour visit. Now, you know how much I love that place.

The little restaurant that could. The food is average to good . Depending on the dish. I fond the tables are clean. The condiments were just nasty gross. Like it never seen a cleaning towel. The atmosphere could be better if they would clean the grease film off the walls and clean up the wall art. Overall not bad for take out. Would not dine in again till its a bit more clean and sanitary.

I came to Champaign for college in 2014 and stayed in town for 8 years until I moved out to LA. Gwok may not be the fanciest but there is something so comforting about their food. I’d choose Gwok over any Thai restaurant in LA. Whenever I’m in Champaign, I make sure I eat here at least once. My personal recs are combo fried rice, pad Thai, and Hainan chicken. This family-owned business deserves high praise.

Amazing food, especially the noodle dishes. I try to go here whenever I am in the area.
Personal favorites are the Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao. They are also able to accommodate special requests. Want no tail on your shrimp? No problem! They can even do things like make Pad Thai with wide noodles (for a very minor price difference).
When they say spicy, they mean spicy though!

I would not recommend this place. My husband had the mongolian beef, extra spicy. Not only was there no spice, I can’t do spice and I could take a bite, it just wasn’t good. He brought me the crab ragoon, no taste and the strangest looking ragoon I have ever seen. The egg rolls were tasteless.
So not happy with the meal.

I used to come here in my college years. I was able to stop by after my sister’s graduation. This was (and still is) my comfort place. Love the food, love the people.

This place is a gem! It is by far some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had! The people are always very nice, they know their customers and you can’t beat the prices. Very affordable for great quality and huge portions!

The perfect local hole in the wall, locally owned place. Pho broth was exquisite, the seafood plentiful, fresh rolls perfect, chicken and broccoli sauce on point and pad Thai exemplary. The chili oil is really well done too. 10/10 Would recommend.
