Still a very good choice to eat here. The food is still good, service about the same as usual. Perfect for family gatherings and/or dinners.

Side note: not every dish is great but the majority are pretty good.

I recommend if you are in a small group, don’t order too much. 1 bowl of rice for every 2 toppings until you’re about to become a literal balloon is the general rule of thumb here.

Since 1998 Golden Swan Restaurant is a popular Chinese restaurant in Vancouver’s Victoria Drive, known for its traditional Cantonese cuisine and award-winning dim sum. It offers a nostalgic dining experience with push-cart dim sum service, a wide menu, and options for both casual meals and larger banquets.

The atmosphere is big, bold, and brassy. It’s very old-school Hong Kong style. It is large, noisy, and lively spot popular with local families.

Service can be a hit or miss at times. When this place gets busy quality control quickly degrades. I would try to avoid the busy times to enjoy the better experience.

They have a a large banquet hall and VIP rooms for events, along with a large parking lot in front of the restaurant.

From my experience. If Western Lake Restaurant is fully booked, Golden Swan across the street will always have a table or shorter waiting time for dim sum.

We recently celebrated my dad’s birthday here for dinner. The service and food is fantastic. It wasn’t too busy for Saturday night, about half full.

We recently visited Golden Swan for dim sum, and while the kitchen is clearly doing a lot of things right, there are a few trade-offs to consider before you go.
The Food
The food was definitely the highlight of the meal—everything was on point.
Dumplings: The shrimp scallops dumplings and the chive dumplings had perfectly translucent, chewy skins that didn’t break apart.
Honeycomb Tripe: This was tender and well-marinated with just the right amount of spice and garlic.
Malay Sponge Cake (Ma Lai Go): It was incredibly fluffy and had that deep, caramelized sweetness you look for.
Greens: Even the simple stir-fried greens were fresh and vibrant with plenty of garlic.
The Atmosphere & Service
The biggest drawback is the noise level. It is exceptionally loud inside, even for a busy dim sum hall. If you’re looking for a quiet place to catch up with friends, this might not be it—you’ll likely find yourself shouting over the table.
As for the service, it’s typical for a high-volume Chinese dim sum spot: fast-paced, functional, and no-nonsense. Don’t expect a lot of “service with a smile,” but they get the food to the table efficiently.

The restaurant has been around for a long time, and we saw many comments saying that the quality has gone down. But we wanted to give it a try again — and it didn’t disappoint us! The food was good, the portions were big, and the service was nice. Definitely one of the best dim sum restaurants in Vancouver.

Plenty of seats for a Sunday! Delicious dim sum and service was great. Prices have gone up slightly, but inflation seems to be the norm everywhere nowadays, unfortunately. Happy with the quality of food we received.

This is our latest ‘to go’ spot for dim sum. It never disappoints. One of the best features – they have plenty small tables, and the two of us can be seated reasonably quickly. And today I’ve discovered a new treat – bitter melon deep fried custard balls, absolutely delis. Photo alongside the best taro dim sum.

This is such a fabulous dim sum restaurant which is really traditional whereby they roll the traditional Chinese food carts past all the tables like they did in the Golden days.
The owner is very kind and knows me by name. Also the servers are friendly to me and my friends. I give them a wonderful tip.

Food is great. You get the dim sum cart service for lunch. But they can be tricky with pricing and like to overcharge. But really good traditional Cantonese food.

It’s as “traditional” old school Cantonese style dim-sum, lunch and dinner restaurant as you can find in area. For new to dim sum, an experience like old days with goodies on push carts that roll around tables. Don’t expect a modern polished place as it’s dated design. Small parking lot upfront otherwise street parking. Very friendly staff.
