I went for the first time I guess the building was there before, when I moved here in 2022 I think that they were remodeling the building or doing whatever they needed to I guess under New Management but I had the fish platter the catfish platter with the fries and the beans and rice they were out of rice which would have made the meals so much better but I must say those beans you really don’t need rice with them those are the most flavorful beans I have ever tasted and I’m not a big beans person it was really good they were really hot the catfish strips were really hot and the fries was really hot the food was really good the waitress was really sweet and really nice and really kind so kudos and I love the lemon squeeze on the fish oh my God perfecto, and the best part about it is that I didn’t have to wait long and the DJ is a nice touch to a restaurant I just got off of work I was just wanting to relax and eat good food and my needs were met completely and the price was really cheap

Haven’t been to this restaurant on a couple years. Decided to try again and found out they are under new ownership. The new owners went out of their way to make us feel very welcome. They even added in some complimentary items. The food was outstanding. It was a refreshing take on the original menu with some Cyprus, Greek and Turkish tidbits thrown in to really tantalize the senses. Assoc with a complimentary pistachio cake and ice cream. They also mentioned that they have several upcoming live band events that I will be looking forward to. All in all if you haven’t been to the Golden Steer in a while please give it another try. Totally worth it and amazingly friendly.

Very nice greeting. Apparently the new owner was very happy to see us that he sat us himself. We have water. We got our drinks. He told us the special. We ordered 2. Looks good. But not only does it not have any flavor, the veggies don’t either. Steak is dry. Not even A1 helped. And NO ONE has even asked how the meal is. We didnt get a server because the owner sat us but nothing since. He walked by the table 4 times now and nothing. Server working tables around us but still hasnt said anything to us. The salad was good though. Went from an awesome tip because of an awesome greeting to no tip for no service and horrible food.

Cool revival of an Kent institution! Absolutely loved the addition of Mediterranean food to the classic menu! Prices were reasonable. Everything was tasty. My favorite bite was the in house made baklava and a cup of Turkish coffee. We were given samples of fresh hummus and baba ganoush. Our server was Mo, the owner. I loved his passion and how attentive he was! He made sure we were happy but also allowed us room to talk over dinner.

Very sad to have to write this review as I was very much looking forward to trying this place for quite sometime. 10/9/25, 7:40 pm. I show up with my 2 daughter’s and my brother who is in a motorized wheelchair for my birthday dinner. The outside was very dark, (no outside lights) there was a group outside at a table on i think the “patio” clearly very intoxicated and playing explicit rap, no wheelchair access but was able to kind of push the wheelchair onto the landing. Walk in, there is a wait to be seated sign, restaurant was completely empty, a handful of people at the bar. About 10 min and no one greeted or seated us no nothing. By then we decided to just leave. Very sad

So this place use to have the best food but the new owners turned it in to a bar not a restaurant I did not order when I was going to pay $30 for a small piece of steak and fry’s then I could add a small amount of potatoes salad for a extra $7 what’s crazy they also looks like they partner with catfish corner who want out of business do to there crazy high prices. Bad business choices on this restaurant in my opinion. Then we were forced to seat in the bar I understand if it was late at night but it was only 8 pm. This use to be a place I loved and would go to all the time to have a local steak dinner but will not be visiting again less it goes back to its old ways. But one good thing there’s a waitress a color lady she’s amazing if there’s any restaurants looking for an amazing waitress hire her.

I definitely wouldn’t choose this restaurant for the ambience. Not a modern place and the restrooms did not feel especially clean. BUT, the food good, the servings were a good value, and the service was great. I had the reuben with sour cream, it was fantastic. My husband had a bbq burger and we had two types of desserts at our table, everything was delicious. Recommended.
