We were being tourist for the day and decided to visit this little gem downtown. Hadn’t been here in years. Had a taste of their Golden Star Special, fish and gravy. Sounds weird but to be honest it was pretty good. It was a light battered crunchy fish, we asked for sauce on the side. I thought very tasty. We also had their wonton soup, one of the best soups I’ve had in a while, combination fried rice, was lacking in taste & pepper chicken very tasty. Overall not bad at all. The service was great.

2 kids burgers and 2 dinner specials with 2 drinks. $80! I know the economy is bad but even during covid this place was thriving why raise your prices so much. Or at least serve quality products. Kids burgers were floppy and fries were luke warm. Sesame chicken was okay but the fried rice was dark definitely cooked with too much soy sauce. And most important part of all my sodas were flat. Two different kinds. So disappointed in myself. I could have made a couple different meals for that price from HEB. Welp lesson learned. I wish I had read something like this before I went here.

Golden Star is a family favorite, I’ve been going since I was a little kid. Lots of parking and quick service. The #52 fish with gravy is always delicious. The shrimp fried rice is also very delicious. They have a variety of American, Mexican, and Chinese dishes on the menu.

Very good service. I got lemon chicken and friend got shrimp egg foo young. This place has been here for a long time and I can see why. They do have parking security. Will always go there when downtown.

Growing up in the hood I’ve been to “hole in the wall” type restaurants, but this one here is more like the if you spill soda in the cup holder and don’t clean it properly. The food (I only had chicken lo mein) has given me stomach issues since I had it. The restrooms, especially the men’s, is atrocious. There is a missing urinal, graffiti on the mirror, graffiti on the door (not a little bit either), rust, gunk, and a truly horrible smell. With every fiber of my being don’t understand how they feel comfortable serving people in this place. They have old I think 8 track players at the tables, and they don’t even work. I will NEVER be back and if you are questioning if you should try it, DON’T.

Ordered the Fried Rice, least to say I will not ever be coming back. One star. The food was inedible. I was surprised to learn such a simple dish could be cooked spoiled rotten. Absolutely disgusting.
As far as the atmosphere and service, I’ll give two stars. If hole in the wall was the goal, I’d say mission accomplished.

Just left Golden Star , food was really good
Service was awful, we had to call someone for refills. Had also ordered a to go at the same time we placed our order and wasn’t put in til I reminded them. We had already paid and thought the to go plate was on the ticket but no it wasn’t charged til it came out, so had to pay again. Overall the food was good but customer service sucks. Oh it wasn’t even packed so there was no excuse not to come check on us . She even had the poor busboy come and tell us about her mistake, she couldn’t even come tell me herself. 5 stars are for food not service.
