Our waitress (and manager according to her name tag) was named Ericka. I hope that I spelled that correctly, if not, my apologies. She was friendly and we had no complaints with her that I can think of. So thank you Ericka. The prices seemed somewhat comparable to other area establishments. As always, I would say that the prices are subjective to peoples opinions. So your opinion may differ. So I didn’t find them overly expensive. But like the times, they are not inexpensive either. I guess average for the area.
We found the breakfast to be okay. It was not bad, but not the best we’ve had either. Don’t get me wrong. The food was decent, just okay though. And to add, this was only breakfast. Tastes do vary as well. And lunch and such may be even better. But we didn’t try lunch yet, so I cannot comment on any differences.
That is my take on The Golden Spoon. I tried to keep the review with in reason. Anyway, they are worth a try. There’s a more than likely chance that we will return in the future.
We received a friendly greeting and sat where we wanted. Our server took our beverage order (2 coffees) upon delivery I found the creamers on the tables to be spoiled. I received the Chicken & waffles which were nicely presented. As I began eating I could tell my chicken had beenL fried in the same oil as the fish! I pushed it aside and ate the waffle & eggs. When I brought this to the servers attention, she informed the chef. His reply was that the oil was recently changed,(Luckily I’m not allergic to shellfish).
I had anticipated a reduction to the price of my meal, but that was not the case. So I paid for the full bill and will NOT be back!
That being said, the diner itself is clean, welcoming, and has a great feel with its decor. The staff is always friendly and attentive, which is a big plus. Ocala could really use a great family-owned diner, and I was hoping this would be the one. With some improvements to food quality and consistency, I’d love to become a regular, but for now, it still needs some work.
The ladies there are nice and friendly. I observed one day how they do have regulars that come in and the staff knows there name and the usual stuff that the customers order.
Food was good and fresh, I had brunch at the time. I know they have bottomless catfish and let me tell you, it’s good. Overall if your looking for a nice subtle spot not like IHOP and Bob evens this is your place.
The visit actually started off quite well. We were greeted right away upon arrival and found a table easily. Additionally, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and the initial presentation of the plates was nice.
While the plates looked good, I certainly can’t say the same for the taste. The quality was disappointing across the board.
My husband said his ribs were just “okay,” but the sides were a failure—the green beans were bland and his baked potato was old and hard.
My daughter’s Snapper was severely lacking flavor, and the green bell pepper in her side salad was actually brown.
My own meal, the Greek Spinach Pie, was equally disappointing; the spinach pie was not up to par.
The experience went from mediocre to unacceptable very quickly. First, the women’s restroom smelled strongly of an ashtray.
However, the most shocking part of the night was the staff’s behavior. At one point, my daughter looked up from her fish and noticed our server making out with the busboy. About five minutes later, she pointed out that they were doing it again—this time right in the middle of the dining room. When I turned around and saw them, they realized they had been caught and simply laughed about it.
This is obviously not appropriate workplace behavior, even for teenagers. We will not be returning.
