Social Profile:

Before there was a hotel, there was a saloon. In 1852, thousands of thirsty prospectors filled their glasses at the original Golden Gate Saloon. After Grass Valley was destroyed by a fire in 1855, the owners quickly adapted and sold whiskey and beer to loyal customers from a tent among the rubble the next day. A seamless flow from the bar to the dining room and outdoor patio offers our guests the perfect mix of food and drink. Enjoy a contemporary menu with the fresh flavors of California and a dash of Mexico, utilizing the bounty of our local and organic farms. The Golden Gate menu is updated seasonally.

We celebrated our anniversary last week by indulging in the tasting menu with wine parings. It was outstanding! The food was beautifully prepared and plated, and of course delicious. Our night out was made even better by our wonderful server, Becky. She was friendly, attentive, and really cared about our experience. We can’t wait to come back!

We spent Christmas Eve at the Holbrook. Had a beautiful room which they decorated with a Christmas tree! We opened the door to feel like we were home at Christmas.
The restaurant was a treat.

We had the salmon and the burrata plate. The accompanying foccocia bread was excellent also.. The crusted salmon was simply delicious.

The hotel service and the restaurant service was tops. Everyone was so helpful.

HOWEVER, We had reservations at the tinsel tavern speakeasy downstairs. We went to the tavern last Christmas and had a good experience.

The service this year was embarrassingly bad. Cocktail waitresses actually ignored us while serving two tables next to us. She would not even look at us. There was no:
”Someone will be with you in a minute” or “Can I get you something while you wait”
Two of them would not even meet our gaze.

I have no idea why or how they could be so rude. Honestly after 20 minutes of this, Iwent to the bar and asked to be helped and they still waited 10 minutes to take our drink and food order.
Everything else was superb.

Delcious cocktails, and one of the best beet dishes/salads I’ve had. Portions are quite generous for the mains. The couple next to me raved about the Elk, and ill be back for it.

Amazing! We did the four course meal with the wine pairings and we were blown away! I’ve never had Brussels sprouts so good before. They tasted like orange chicken! How??? The power went out twice so maybe the ghosts were jealous. We got to have dinner in the dark with candle light. It was actually great. The full glass of wine with each course sure helped too

We celebrated my brother’s birthday here and were served by Nathan who made the experience the best it could’ve been. The restaurant itself was wonderful, as was the food and beverages, but his service was incredible.

My partner and I went here for our anniversary on Friday the 19th and we were impressed. Unfortunately we did not make a reservation and there were several holiday parties taking place. We were able to sit on the covered patio under the heaters with the misty rain not impacting our experience at all. We were quite warm. The only issue we had were heavily intoxicated people coming outside to smoke/vape at the covered patio tables right next to the entrance, which is illegal. Fortunately a server came by and told them to move away from the patio so we only had to deal with that for a few minutes. The food was extravagant and the portion sizes were great because we got to try a variety of their menu without feeling stuffed. We got the focaccia with whipped goat cheese and the oysters. The champagne vinaigrette combined with the lemon juice on the oysters was delicious, I don’t usually get oysters but the chef paired the flavors well. For entrees my partner got the braised beef and accommodated his dairy intolerance. He got the collards and the brussel sprouts. The collards were incredible. I got the juniper crusted elk with the gratin potatoes and the arugula salad. The juniper flavor was very predominant and I was amazed. It was a little bitter but the other things on the plate really complimented it. The cook on the elk was a perfect med rare. The plating was elegant. For dessert we had the salted caramel brownie. They baked it in a muffin tin so you got all edges if you like that (I prefer the gooey part). It was delicious of course. I also got a spiced root mocktail—they have lots of nonalcoholic options for those that don’t drink. The server was great, not sure what his name was but he’s the tall blonde man. The restaurant was pricey but the food was worth it.

Every aspect of our dining experience (first time there) was really top notch! Drinks prepared beautifully, appetizer (calamari) was the best I’ve had since moving to California. Our dinners (Duck and Salmon) were a 10!! Excellent flavors and beautiful presentation. Even our shared desert (brownie with home made salted caramel ice cream) was a 10! Best of all, our food server Becky helped with some recommendations, never seemed rushed or bothered by our endless questions so she made our dining experience so relaxing and enjoyable. And I noticed she was that way at every one of her tables- pleasant, knowledgeable, not hurried.

Could not have asked for better evening or meal. First off, the restaurant was slammed, seemingly overwhelmed. Nevertheless, the staff rolled with everything and outcome could not have been better. Server was top notch, cheerful, offered solid opinions and always on point. Each course was exceptional exceptional from appetizer to salad to the two main courses and onto the dessert. It’s rare that every single course is top notch, but the seasonally appropriate meal was just that good.
