To be honest it’s been awhile since I was here. I grew up in the neighborhood. This location was a dentist, then ice cream shop (didn’t last long) then Golden Chow Mein came, so maybe 30-40+ years here. I would come in and order Shrimp Fried Rice was my favorite. I came in often since prices were reasonable when i was in college, that the lady that ran the place knew my order with out asking. Occasionally I would bring a date to this place, she would tell the girl what a great guy I was and brag me up as if I were her own son. Many fond memories of this place.

I wanted to have old school shrimp with Lobster sauce with ground pork in brownish sauce. Leos was so far and lady was always mean on the phone.

I have been looking for Subgum Chicken Chow Mein that compares to Jung’s in NE Mpls (they closed awhile ago)…this was NOT it…the sauce was gelatinous. I got it in the vehicle and my daughter said it smelled like a hair dryer that was burning hair. I took one bite and threw it away.

Tried Golden Chow Mein for the first time this week and I was amazed. This is easily the best Chinese food in St Paul that I’ve had. Ma and Pa/Family restaurant with quality ingredients and simple yet absolutely delicious recipes. From the apps to the chow mein to the fried rice to the stir fry dishes, this is delicious and I can’t wait to order again.

Walked in to check out the menu, it’s super not clear as to what sizes= the price shown. We watched an interaction of the cashier and a customer, seems like the price and size that they were referring to the customer didn’t seem consistent and just pulled from the air. Based on the other reviews this seems like a trend, will not be back to try.

Called to complain about how she about how she gave, took down the wrong order that I wanted, which is a combination number three chow mein, food, young, and fried rice. $8.50 great budget is tight. So I ordered, ordered, she says OK, asking as she asked what kind of rice and I said shrimp fried rice.
she then tells me OK, reads the order back to me, saying OK a large shrimp fried rice double. No, I’m thinking that the order is just what she is reading on, nothing more, but how it’s supposed to be a double shrimp, fried rice and fried hard to my specifications.
my friend comes to pick up my order, says the order came to $22.00 and some change…shes paid with her debit card, I’m not stuck with all this food which will more then likely be forced eaten to not go to waste.
Oh and I called back four times, I’m which the first was a mistake; though as my complaint became more relevant she hung up the phone, then proceeded to not answer. Yes that’s right they have a caller ID. Go SOLDEN Now Shame!! “BBB” pick this one up my goodness.

Amazing service! The lady who helped me made sure I would have enough food to feed everyone. She also triple checked my bag to make sure everything was there. The food was amazing and there was lots of it. The price was very fair as well! If I could give more than 5 stars I would!

It’s Golden! The best Chow Mein and Egg Fu Yung I have had in years. Reminds me of the neighborhood place we would frequent in Minneapolis. Reasonable prices, great food. Go! Eat! The Lady at the counter said they have been there 35 years. The menu and decor suggest it is the same as it was 35 years ago, which adds to the Old School vibe/charm of this place.
