The Golden China Restaurant has a lot of 5 star reviews so we decided to stop there on our way back from Lake Topaz. We had a mixed experience. The easy part is cleanliness which I rated as 5 star under ‘Atmosphere’. Golden China is as clean as restaurant can be. Both bathrooms were operating table spotless on a busy Sunday afternoon.
Our expectations for the food may have been too high from the previous reviews. It’s standard Chinese-American food. I am a fan of this style of cuisine, but I am not sure how you make it ‘5 Star’. I had Seafood Chow Fun. (This was not on their menu, but they were happy to make it when I requested it.) It was good (pictured). I would have liked a few more scallops, but I always want more scallops.
Price for 2 with 1 beer was $45.15 after tax. I would eat at the Golden China again, but I would not drive out of my way to do so.

Appetisers here are amazing, especially the fried prawns. Portion sizes are also very generous. Chow mein has that delicious wok-char flavour, so tasty! Sweet & sour pork was a little too sweet for my liking but still yummy. Unfortunately the roast duck was way over cooked and very dry. Golden China beef a bit tasteless and beef was a bit stringy/gristly.

Cool place to have lunch. We stopped by around 3 pm and they were still serving luncheon plates. For $8.25 a plate, it’s a low price for a good amount of quality food.
A sign by the door said this place has been open since 1983. If they continue this service and food quality, they would be open many more years.

Hands down best orange chicken around. Also the Hunan chicken was fire. First time coming in and I was blown away. Will definitely be coming back.

Good portion, good prices, good flavor. Standard service. i asked for a TV dinning D with fried rice, and I obtained this plate for $12. Ask for silverware and napkins on to go orders. They do not put them.

We had the family for 2 which included Won Ton soup, fried shrimp, sweet and sour pork, chow mein and pork fried rice. Our meal was good. We’ll be back!

Place is good if craving Chinese rice wasn’t great .. wonton was amazing chowmein good beef broc yum kao pao chicken was good .. only thing that was weird and gross she refilled soda!! Soda from a dirty reusable water container ♀️

Although this restaurant is very clean and they have very good customer service, I rarely order the garlic chicken. It shouldn’t be called garlic chicken since there’s no chicken in it. 90% of it is deep-fried chicken skin with garlic sauce on it. It’s so frustrating. I don’t like to drive all the way to Modesto for my Chinese food. I ordered this just to see if it has changed. It’s still the same. Very little chicken, but tons of fat and skin deep-fried. I wish someone would talk to the owner and change this process of making spicy garlic chicken.

Noodles was Greesy. I ordered 3 kind of chickens but all of chickens taste very bad. One more thing, they charge 2 kind of tax from customer. If u visit with 5 people’s or more then they charge state tax or 15% extra charge for service. My first or last visit in this restaurant. M never suggest that restaurant to anyone. Big Zero Star…
