This place is a dive with damn good pizzas and a huge selection of solid beer for great prices. Happy hour deals on drinks are great. Pizzas very reasonably priced. They’ve got all kinds of weekly events, from comedy shows to D & D and pottery. They’ve nailed the English pub vibe. Plenty of pool tables and arcade games.

If you read my review about the Gold Tooth Tony’s Heights location, you found a pretty glowing one. This one, not so much. So the first and foremost thing to know about the Gold Tooth Tony’s Montrose location is that it’s inside of Rudyard’s. And there is NO way of knowing that from the exterior. I myself only found out from Yelp reviews. So, that actually plays into the most important aspect of this review. See, when it’s a standalone restaurant, you have employees that represent that company and (ideally) deliver excellent customer service. Here, it’s different. You order from the bartenders, who obviously work for the bar and not Gold Tooth Tony’s directly. I went on Halloween afternoon right after work so it’s not like the place was packed. And I only went here instead of the Heights since it was so much closer.

I stood at the bar for literally 5 minutes as a bartender did…well something…at the register before telling me the lady next to her would help me. And that took another few minutes. So I had already spent nearly 10 minutes here without any help and it didn’t seem like they would care if I left or not (I almost did). My order was taken by the 2nd bartender who was at least a little nicer (and acknowledged my existence unlike the first one!) I ordered a Detroit Style pizza, a 12″ Houston style, and a Caesar Salad. At no point was I asked if it was for there or to-go, but one would assume a guy wouldn’t sit there and eat all that food there by himself…unless I just look THAT depressed or like I hate myself that much?? So the first bartender (the one who had originally ignored me) brought out the salad to the table where I waited and I had to tell her that it was a to-go order. She seemed upset, even though, like I said, NO ONE had asked me beforehand. And she was not even a little upset, she was glaring like I had just shot her dog and walked over its cadaver Allen-Iverson-over-Ty-Lue style. But I digress. In total, I waited about 35 minutes for the order, which I actually think is about right for 2 pizzas without calling ahead. I was glad to get my food as it was not a remotely cordial atmosphere.

But for me, that’s a big bummer part of it. You look forward to getting pizza for a night in with some fun horror movies (especially on Halloween!) and it shouldn’t be started out with unfriendly, unwelcoming service. The good news? The pizza was great. The one I got was the Detroit Hunger Force and it was absolutely fantastic. My girlfriend had done a build-your-own with ricotta, sausage, onions, and bacon. Even the Caesar was spectacular.

So, yes, the food (which is the most important thing) is just as great as it is at the Heights location. But the service leaves A LOT to be desired and that is also a significant part of the overall dining experience. Yes, I get that a bar makes money from the alcohol sales, but I’m sure lots of other people are like me who are just there for the food and want to be valued as customers equally (especially when dropping over $60 for a meal, 3 items, at that). I probably wouldn’t go back here and hope this helps other potential customers to level set on expectations when it comes to the service, which falls flat.

$60 for 4 corners and garlic knots?!? Criminal! Pizza was soggy with little to no crunch. I was down to pay if it was good but dang…. Super disappointed. And damn near $4 for a small dipping cup of mid ass ranch! This place has some audacity. At least the flavor was good. .. Nothing special just good. Love some good Detroit Pizza but this ain’t it. No intention of going back.

It had been YEARS, we’re talking almost ten years since I’d bitten into a slice of pizza and felt the things that GTT’s instantly made me feel. Felt like a kid again eating some truly delicious pizza for the very first time. Your taste buds can tell they use quality ingredients here, something that is lacking at many places these days.

Gold Tooth Tony’s: A Detroit-Style Dream!
★★★★★
Gold Tooth Tony’s is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is fantastic, creating a perfect ambiance for enjoying delicious food with friends. Our server was attentive and friendly, making the entire experience even more enjoyable. But let’s talk about the food!
We started with the curly fries, which were crispy and perfectly seasoned, and the garlic knots, a cheesy, garlicky delight. For the main event, we couldn’t resist trying both the vegetable and meatball pizzas. Wow! The Detroit-style crust is simply amazing – crispy edges and a chewy, airy center. The toppings on both pizzas were fresh and flavorful.
If you’re a pizza lover, Gold Tooth Tony’s is a must-try! Detroit-style pizza has officially won us over.

Pizza is ok. Bready and soggy. I was expecting more like Detroit style with crispy crust. The garlic knots are delicious though. I probably won’t order from them again since this is the 3rd time and I’ve always been disappointed. The prices are insane, too. It was $46.24 before delivery, tax, and tip for a small pepperoni and sausage pizza and garlic knots.

I ordered take out from here tonight. Being a native New Yorker I am somewhat of a pizza snob, although this place has Detroit style pizza, it’s delicious and great quality. We also loved the garlic knots. Although it was takeout, the pizza still came perfect, not soggy, and tasted very fresh. I’ll definitely be ordering from here again!

We didn’t get the Detroit style but with that said all I’m going to say is we were very disappointed. The pizza was bland, very little cheese and the dough was almost rubbery.
