It’s a cafeteria on the second floor of a state building, that caters to state workers. The layout is dull and drab, and there are self service dispensers for soft drinks, a cooler or two stocked with cold items, and a grill where you can get sandwiches and fried sides made to order, or you can order the daily special, which is an adventure. On my visit, the special was lasagna. Two versions were available: a “red,” made with marinara sauce and ground beef, and a “green” — or perhaps they called it “white,” made with chicken and green enchilada sauce. Being a courageous eater, I chose the green. It came with a piece of garlic bread. It was good! With a bottled drink I think I paid $16. I’ve had worse meals often in downtown Sac! This was an adequate spot to hang out with 1 to 3 friends or colleagues, if you live or work within walking distance. It’s not an experience you’ll be satisfied with if you have to use a vehicle to get there. Hope that helps.

The Goldrush Grille is hidden in the Secretary of State building and you need a state ID to get in. It’s unassuming with a cafe style ordering system.
I’ve gotten the burger and chicken sandwich and both are tasty and filling. They don’t skimp on sides, either. The onion rings are bomb. The only odd thing is they don’t add any spreads – it’s all condiment packets. But you can ask for BBQ sauce if you want.
There’s plenty of seating with window views. It can get busy during rush hours, but they are pretty efficient at turning out food.
Looking forward to coming back and checking out their out menu items.

This is the new place to be for lunch and breakfast. The food is always made fresh to order and tastes very good EVERYTIME!
They have a great selection and are VERY affordable. The staff are friendly and attentive. They also have a nice patio to sit at if dining inside.

Great food for under $10 per meal and virtually no line at noon! The cook guy will remember your cheese, onion, etc preferences from the very first visit! How cool is that! I highly recommend this place!

Amazing food!! The staff are friendly as well. My biggest complaint is that they don’t wipe down the tables often at all! I go here multiple days in a row, and the same messes are still there. It’s really hard to find a clean place to eat. Please take 5 minutes every couple hours to clean the tables.

There is always a line here for both the sandwich bar and grill. Despite this, the staff are very quick at preparing meals so there isn’t usually a long wait. Food is well priced and tasty. State badge needed to get in secretary of state building.

I love Gold Rush Grille! I’ve been eating there for 3 years now and I’ve never, not once, been disappointed. The cook is super nice! All the staff is friendly. Food comes out fairly quick, although if you’re strapped for time I definitely recommend calling ahead to place your order. I’d say call-in orders normally take about 20 minutes TOPS, like max if they’re super busy – and they do get busy (because they’re that good )! I would and do recommend any day.
