The appetizers like Raju Gaari Kodi Vepudu and Kaaram Kodi Vepudu had great flavor. The fish and goat dishes, however, didn’t justify the price and could definitely be improved.
For mains, the Raju Kodi Biryani was good, and the pulaos were satisfying. Desserts were disappointing — especially the junnu, which was the weakest item on the menu. The snack section and chutneys also need serious improvement.
The menu is extensive, but only a handful of items truly deliver on taste. With more focus on authentic flavors instead of variety, the experience could be much better.
Ambience is decent with a lively, party-like vibe. It’s usually filled with Telugu crowd and feels more energetic than the old Godavari location.
The highlight for me was definitely the Veg Keema Biryani with soy, I absolutely loved it. The spice level was perfect, especially if you’re used to Telugu-style flavors. It has that authentic Andhra kick, so I honestly wouldn’t recommend ordering it “extra spicy.” The regular spice level is already spot on and very satisfying.
The Tatte Idly was soft and fresh, and the breakfast options here are really strong in general. If you’re craving proper South Indian breakfast, this is a great place. The Karampodi Paneer was flavorful with a nice spicy punch, and the chicken starter was well cooked and tasty.
The only dish that disappointed me was the Baby Corn Manchuria. The baby corn felt a bit hard and slightly undercooked, which affected the overall texture and taste. That was the only downside of the meal.
Service was great, attentive and smooth. Only atmosphere is loud and noise. Better to take out the order rather than dine in especially during weekends. One thing to note: since the spice level is perfect for Telugu taste buds, it might not be very kid-friendly unless your kids are used to spicy food.
Overall, a solid place for authentic flavors. I’d definitely go back. Try not to place online order. Do go and pick it up. I have tried their online order and its completely different and disappointing. Quantity will be less, taste felt like stale food. Do go and pick food.
Godavari is brand new and it shows. Clean, modern space, great energy, and everything felt dialed in from the start.
We ordered two thalis (one veg, one non-veg). Both were generous, fresh, and genuinely well-balanced. Every item tasted distinct, not like the same sauce recycled across the plate.
The standout was the Hakka chicken, easily the best I’ve had. Perfectly crispy, bold flavor, the right amount of heat, and not greasy.
Don’t skip the Indian ice cream either, super creamy and a great finish.
I came in from Manhattan and I’d do it again. If a restaurant is worth enduring Lincoln Tunnel traffic for, it’s worth my strongest recommendation.
This time I ordered Mysore Bonda, but the size was more like tiny punugulu. The pieces were very small, the outer layer was hard and difficult to chew, and the inside was oily. For $25 for two plates, you only get about 5 pieces per plate, and honestly only one piece from each plate was good enough to eat. Definitely not worth the money.
We also waited about 20 minutes for a table for two.
On the positive side, the chole bhature had very good flavor, although the bhature were a bit oily. Still, it was far better than the Mysore bonda.
If you are waiting in line and thinking of ordering appetizers outside the main dining area, I wouldn’t recommend wasting money on them.
Really disappointing because this place used to be much better when it first opened, had so much better quality and quantity for price!
I’ve been to other Godavari locations in MA, and a friend told me about the new NJ location. I’ve now twice, and it’s officially my favorite South Indian restaurant in Jersey City.
And I’m not just talking about dosas, etc.. This place delivers delicious, authentic, homestyle, South Indian food that makes me feel like I’m back in Hyderabad.
We’re vegetarian and we tried a bunch of different apps on the menu each time. Everything was tasty and our standouts were the guntur idly and karampodi idly. So good.
For mains, the first visit was all about dosas. They were perfectly crispy, great flavor, and done right. The second visit, we tried the thali and that was the PERFECT flavor bomb I was looking for. It’s the chef’s special and changes but it’s the best way to sample a range of dishes, and everything we’ve tried so far was consistently excellent. My fav was their eggplant and crispy okra. And everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and not greasy.
I’m definitely coming in again with a big appetite and will order its thalis for my third round.
The staff was welcoming and attentive both times. I also recommend saving room for dessert. They have the Indian Kwality Wall’s ice cream which is the perfect sweetness and flavors and hits the nostalgia spot perfectly. We tried the malai kulfi and mango, and both were excellent.
Godavari Restaurant is hands down one of the best South Indian restaurants I’ve ever visited. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with warm hospitality and an inviting atmosphere that perfectly complements the incredible food. The dhaba style aloo korma and Kashmiri paneer kadhai.
The flavors are authentic, bold, and perfectly balanced—you can truly taste the traditional Andhra-style cooking in every bite. The dosas are crisp, the curries are rich and aromatic, and the spice levels are spot-on. The seafood dishes, especially, are exceptional and taste incredibly fresh. Every dish we tried was full of flavor and clearly made with high-quality ingredients.
Service deserves a special mention—attentive, friendly, and fast, even during busy hours. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu and happy to recommend dishes based on your preferences.
If you love genuine South Indian cuisine with authentic taste, generous portions, and excellent service, Godavari is a must-visit. Highly recommended for families, food lovers, and anyone looking to experience true Andhra flavors. We will definitely be coming back again and again!
That said, both the veg and non-veg food here taste decent. They also have Indian flavored ice creams, which are definitely worth trying and make for a nice finish to the meal.
