Sunny Discoveries
I wasn’t sure how to rate this review because if it not for ShanaKay this review would get one star. 4 of us stopped in on Dec 11, 2025 around 11:30am; Google says they open at 10am. We were planning to go to Port Royal but would’ve been late for the flight which makes this a perfect location on the way to the airport.

We walked in and saw a young lady on her phone sitting at one of the tables. She clearly worked there and until now she has yet to acknowledge us. We walked further in and called out to another young lady we saw sitting at the bar. She half turned, looked at us, and turned back to what she was doing. We called to her TWO more times asking if they’re open to which she said yes but continued ignoring us. We called to her again asking if we could be served and she waved us to sit wherever we wanted. We walked out to the patio and stood there about 10 minutes and no one came. We were in the middle of walking back out when Shanakay appeared. Thank goodness!!

What a beautiful smile and personality. We explained that we were leaning and she turned to ask the young lady at the bar if she spoke to us, and that young lady said something like “mi tell them fi sit dung”. I was further away and didn’t hear her clearly but she had the same nonchalant and dismissive attitude.

Now listen, although I now live in the US, I was born and raised in my beautiful island and it’s heartbreaking to witness this so often. Whyyyy are our people like this? Whyyyy is it ok to run someone’s business into the ground simply because of bad attitudes and zero customer service? I’m not expecting you to jump up, but for crying out loud, at least acknowledge the patron. Say something welcoming!!!

The food was GREAT. Portions were a big surprise. Lobster was delicious. Steamed bammy was on point . The food needed to be hotter (temperature) because it was only lukewarm but I’m happy that Shanakay did all she could to get us in and out. She was awesome by every measurement. We ordered extra fried fish to take back on the flight and she wrapped it all up really good. BTW Shanakay if you get to see this, I wanna say the pickle leaked a bit but it made it …..thanks so much!

“We take the sea to the city, and Gloria’s does exactly that! Plus good vibes music

The jerk shrimp and buttery shrimp were packed with flavor, and the escovitch fish with festival and bammy was absolutely delicious.

Every bite tasted fresh, like the ocean on a plate. To top it off, washing it all down with a cold D&G melon and lemon soda made the meal perfect.

If you’re looking for authentic seafood with true island vibes, Gloria’s is the spot!”

My husband and I dined at Gloria’s in Kingston on Valentine’s Day. Parking was convenient, and we were seated on the outdoor patio, which had a very nice view.

Our waitress took our drink and food orders promptly. However, there was a longer-than-expected wait for both our drinks and our meals. We had hoped to receive our drinks sooner while waiting for the food.

We have previously visited the Port Royal location and had a very positive experience there, with timely service and fresh, hot food. This visit was a bit different, though the setting itself was enjoyable.

Dangerous and Disgraceful Experience
If I could give zero stars, I would. After a stellar meal at the Port Royal location, my daughter and I decided to visit the Kingston branch on February 28th. It was the worst mistake of our trip.
The Service (or Lack Thereof)
The evening started with us being completely ignored. After being seated, we sat for 45 minutes without a single staff member acknowledging our existence. I eventually had to get up and physically flag someone down just to place an order.
The “Government Takeover” Excuse
When we finally spoke to a waiter, we were told most of the menu was unavailable. The explanation? Apparently, the restaurant was in the middle of a “government takeover” and they hadn’t restocked their inventory. If a restaurant is in such a state of disarray that they cannot provide basic menu items or service, they should close their doors rather than subject paying customers to a subpar experience.
The Red Flag
We ordered lobster, fried snapper, and brown stewed fish. At Port Royal, the fresh food took about an hour—which we expected. Here, the food arrived in less than 3 minutes. It was clear then (and painfully clear now) that the food was not prepared fresh; it was likely sitting out or improperly reheated.
Severe Food Poisoning
The consequences were immediate and severe. Before we even reached our hotel, both my daughter and I began experiencing intense gastrointestinal distress. We spent the remainder of our final night in Kingston in agony. We flew home on March 1st suffering from lethargy, nausea, and chronic diarrhea. It has been two days, and we are still battling what is clearly a severe case of food poisoning. This wasn’t just a “bad meal”; it was a health hazard.
Avoid this location at all costs. The mismanagement and blatant disregard for food safety standards are unacceptable. Stick to Port Royal or go elsewhere entirely.

So I went to Gloria’s restaurant on September 2nd.
My sister wanted to take my mom’s out to eat and other sisters and cousin and my niece.we park went upstairs. We was greeted taking to our seats and about 2 to 3 minutes. The waitress came back. Take our order for a food. going into a restaurant, I know, you know, usually they ask you if you want something to drink like some water. A glass would be on the table with some water where you can drink before you know, start your meal well, that wasn’t there so my mom orders, steam fish bammy my sister also orders steam fish with bammy but then the waitress ask my other sister, what would you like? As your side order? Bammy, or crackers, I did not know that crackers is a side order. when you’re steaming fish you put crackers in a steam fish. So my mom said, no I need bammy, cause I can go buy crackers. The meal came with toss salad. That salad tossed with nothing but vinegar.bammy look like it was saok in vinegar as well. bammy wasn’t all that at all, wasn’t what I was expected. This is my first time at that establishment. I’ve never ate there before my sister recommended because she said she ate there before and the food was good. It wasn’t what I expected. I could’ve did a way better job and didn’t have to spend that much money. And I won’t be going back there, and that’s for sure. The reason I gave the service a 3 star because she never came back and check on us If we was good, she was on her phone sitting when she didn’t have customer to services and we asked for box to put the food up. But when we got that bill and look at that bill, I did not know when you ask for a to go box, you had to pay for it girl. We had to pay $,347.83 then Gratuity include, in your bill and then the waitress still asking you for tips, what did I pay Gratuity for.Thank but No Thank will not be eating there ever again!

We were greeted as soon as we entered, and information was given as it relates to our seats, the menu, the time frame for the food, the wifi password, etc

We were seated, our order was taken, and delicious food was received in a timely manner, and during the wait time for the food, we were updated as it relates to the time frame to receive it.

The atmosphere, food, staff, etc all great.

Highly recommended

Food came out cold after long wait. Waitress wasn’t proficient in hospitality. Card machine was down bring cash to avoid high atm fees & conversion rates. Back to port royal original location it is for me personally.

This location needs a complete overhaul of management or needs to be CLOSED DOWN.

Gloria’s robbed me today, barefaced and the food can no longer compensate for that + very rude service + dirty environment.

Gloria’s Downtown is the only restaurant I know that charges a MANDATORY service/gratuity charge for TAKE-OUT (10% of the whole bill) and does not tell you that before you purchase the meal. Garbage. ILLEGAL. The cashier’s explanation was that it’s built into the system and cannot be removed. When I asked to speak to the manager about having it removed, after being told “they’re unavailable”, “the phone nah work fi call dem”, “mi na’ave none a dem number enuh”, they finally got ‘Apple’, one of the managers on the phone. ‘Apple’ told the cashier that she did not want to speak to customers. CRAZY, for a manager at that. I will be reporting this charge to the Consumer Affairs Commission.

Whether you are dining or ordering take-out, you have to endure the same rude servers who act like you forced them into the job; which now makes sense, since the manager seems to have no customer service training either. The tables are not promptly cleaned and some remain dirty when customers leave and overall, Gloria’s Downtown cannot get my money ever again unless every single one of these things change.

Bottom line: You may as well drive to Hellshire and buy your fish there.

Food was underwhelming. The staff was friendly but very busy and they didn’t pay much attention to me as a solo diner. I had a simple shrimp pasta and I didn’t enjoy it. The atmosphere is 1010 but I wouldn’t go back for just that.
