The atmosphere was better than the typical “tavern” atmosphere. Reminded me of home (Colorado). Loved it. The food was even better than I expected. Their Gizmo smashburger has to be the best in KC.

First time visit with 5 ppl at table. Curtis was our waiter. Excellent service, suggested some great menu items. Two of us had the salmon, excellent, very yummy. 1 had the Greek salad, she said it was yummy, the other 2 had burgers , said they we’re cooked perfectly!! Our adult beverages we’re good. We will be back very soon, bringing more people!!

I’ve been here a handful of times and have always thoroughly enjoyed what I ordered. Service is prompt and attentive and drinks are delicious, though as a cocktail girl I’d like to see a cocktail menu in the future. I will definitely be coming back. Pictures are of the menus, the grilled turkey sandwich, the Greek salad salmon wrap, and the seared salmon. Also their fries are delicious, honestly the best I’ve had anywhere in awhile.

Gizmos Tavern in Smithville did not disappoint!!! Started with Cheese Curds and Wings. Both were great beginnings. The boy had the Pig & Shrimp mac and cheese and I had the Gizmo Smash Burger. Truly exceptional. We’ll definitely be back.

Still a soft opening. Address to look for is 111 above door and pull really, really hard to open! The place is quite large and several shareable tables as well private tables. We had the Mussels and Fries and while it is suggested to dip the fries, I think they’re way too crispy and tasty on their own to get them soggy in the delicious sauce so I asked for bread. The 4 pieces of the perfectly toasted baguette were $5 and worth it. Also could’ve used a spoon! The calamari was a nice portion with a great dipping sauce and Thai Slaw that had a nice flavor with the mint and cilantro in there. A little disappointed the calamari was a bit chewy. A fun highlight was the secret loose brick in the wall. Yes we hid a note and hope you’ll find it and do the same!!!! Beautiful place and friendly service.

One of the best steaks we’ve ever had served with ample sidedishes. Sea bass was thick and melted in the mouth. Philly egg rolls and calamari were a delight. Friendly service and lively atmosphere.

We had a great dining experience here tonight, we had a sweet waitress and one of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time. We started with the cheese curd and salmon spread as appetizers, the cheese curds were good but we weren’t as crazy about the salmon spread. I got the 6 oz filet and my boyfriend got the rack of lamb for our entrees and they were both delicious and very high quality at a decent price. I will definitely return. I loved the cozy rustic environment and it had a more upscale menu but a casual feel tavern too. Loved it!

Gizmos is situated on a quaint street in downtown Smithville, and it’s the restaurant this town needed—it does not disappoint. The dining area is spacious, with great spacing between tables, making it feel comfortable even on a busy night.

We tried the restaurant on a Friday evening, and despite a short 20-25 minute wait, it was well worth it. We started with the salmon spread, served with an herb-grilled baguette. This was an excellent beginning—not too heavy, with the briny capers adding a delightful contrast to the creamy salmon. For the main course, my wife had the Shrimp Scampi, which came with linguini in a white wine and herbed butter sauce. Spinach, pine nuts, cherry tomatoes, and pesto completed the dish, and the shrimp were large and perfectly cooked. The portion size was just right, and she paired it with a house salad that was hearty and fresh.

I opted for the Cioppino, a dish you rarely come across in the Midwest, especially in a small town like Smithville. I had initially wanted the roasted sea bass, but the Cioppino included sea bass, along with shrimp, mussels, calamari, and salmon, all served in a saffron tomato broth. The dish was packed with flavor, and I highly recommend ordering a side of grilled baguette to soak up that incredible broth. As a side, I had bok choy, which was cooked to perfection.

What made our experience even better was that after spending Saturday with family, we found ourselves back at Gizmos for dinner again. My family had heard about our positive experience the night before and was eager to try it out for themselves. This time, we started with the olive spread, which had been recommended to me previously—it was amazing! If you’re an olive fan, don’t pass this up. We also had the fried cheese curds with remoulade sauce, another recommendation that didn’t disappoint.

For our main course, I had the Greek salad, which was fresh and vibrant with mixed greens, olives, pickled shallots, and feta cheese. My wife had another salad that featured mixed greens, walnuts, blueberries, pumpkin seeds, goat cheese, and onions—she loved it, though I can’t recall the name. My sister, who is vegan, opted for sides of green beans, bok choy, and potatoes. She was impressed with the flavors, especially the crisp, flavorful green beans. My father had the house salad.

To finish off the meal, we shared two desserts: a rich sticky toffee bread pudding with popcorn ice cream, and a decadent chocolate torte with black raspberry ice cream. Though I initially claimed I was done, I couldn’t resist digging into the desserts. Both were excellent, and a perfect end to the meal.

What sets Gizmos apart is its menu. They offer a variety of seafood dishes you just don’t see in this area, in addition to staples like burgers, chicken sandwiches, steak, and pork. Whether you’re looking for comfort food or something more refined, there’s something for everyone.

The only slight drawback is that the music could be lowered a notch during the dinner hour. While the tavern vibe is charming, we found ourselves speaking louder than usual to keep up a conversation.

Despite that, if you’re in Kansas City, take a short trip to Gizmos—you won’t regret it! I look forward to visiting again soon.

Great experience from the time I walked in and was greeted / seated until I left. Appetizer was on point with great presentation and fairly priced. Server Heather was phenomenal and my meal, the double smash burger, was great. Recommend the Shrimp appetizer as well. Good Whiskey / Bourbon selection. Owner cut no corners on designing the place. Will def be back
