Talk about a hidden gem, we found Girasoles Restaurant just outside of Athens, Georgia, in the town of Watkinsville. Reservations are highly recommended for seating after 5:30.
The menu is full of excellent choices and the specials are endless.
We started our gastronomic adventure Shrimp and Crab Soup and Roasted Tomato Soup. We both could have stopped right there and had a reorder, the soups were OUTSTANDING!
Our son so enjoyed the warm Sherry & Hot Bacon Salad as a starter.
The Pasta Bolognese was full of wonderful chunks of beef that melted in your mouth. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Filet Mignon and Scottish Salmon topped with large chunks of white crab meat. I can lament forever. All I know is when we visit Athens area again we will eat nowhere else but at Girasoles.
10 Stars to the Chef and Staff, your food and service is worthy of a Michelin Star.

We went during their all you can eat brunch buffet. Holy moly, it was the best meal we’ve had in a long time!

Definitely worth driving out of your way for this one. I ordered a savory shrimp crepe at a made to order bar. My friend got made to order chocolate chip pancakes. They can basically make you just about anything you can imagine.

They also had a self service table and self serve dessert. Waitstaff are incredibly attentive. I can’t wait to visit Georgia again 🙂

We came here 7 months ago and it was phenomenal, we recommend this place to everyone. However today’s visit (Mar 2023) was not worth the money at all, feels like the chef is not cooking, the same Wellington special is much worse, the bread is not crispy and beef is okay; the sea bass is also nothing special, doesn’t feel like $75 dish at all. The mushroom soup however is very good. Overall it is a very nice restaurant but the food simply isn’t worth the price.

I’ve always believed you can’t fix what you don’t know about, so I feel that I have to submit this review. I hope someone on staff reads it.

We’ve eaten at Girasoles several times and enjoyed the experience, but our meal last week was very disappointing. The chicken dish I had was delicious (although I am done with steamed carrots and broccoli as a side), and the chef’s “chocolate passion pie” dessert was amazing, but something is slipping on the management side. I was the designated driver, so I ordered a cherry sour from the mocktail menu. It was delicious, so when the food came I ordered another. The very nice server apologized, but they were out of cherry juice. No problem, I’ll have an Athletic IPA. Nope, out of that too. Ok, I’ll try the other Athletic on the menu…nope, out of that as well. So I settled for water. Then when we finished our entrees and started to consider dessert, I asked for a cup of decaf coffee. They were out of decaf! I was astounded–the restaurant was not full, our reservation was at 6pm, and this was on a Friday. I can understand maybe running out of one or two items at the end of a busy night, or after a busy weekend, but this was the start of Friday service! Inventory management is a basic requirement for a restaurant, and beer and coffee aren’t exotic items. Somebody is dropping the ball.

I was also disappointed by the atmosphere–there was a couple seated at the table nearest us, and the man took a loud speakerphone call during his meal, and of course it went on and on, and the staff never asked him to mute it or step outside. Granted, the restaurant is not wholly responsible for the behavior of rude customers, but it’s their job to set expectations, and the fact that nobody bothered was disappointing.

Not sure I’ll be back.

We had a wonderful time like always!! Went for our 28th wedding anniversary!! Food was amazing!! Waiter was great!! Loved everything!! Husband got steak, I got salmon with blueberry sauce!! Everything was wonderful!!

I was diagnosed with celiac a year ago and have not been able to eat out without it being super awkward. The experience I had at Girasoles made me feel comfortable and well taken care of. Chef Jose came out to visit my husband and I at our table and answered all our questions and was very sweet. He could make pretty much anything on the menu we wanted gluten free. If we asked for something not on the menu I am certain he would have gone out of his way to get it for us. Chef certainly loves what he does and we are blessed to have such a jewel of the culinary world near us. The prices were high but worth it because it wasn’t just the food we went for .

I was with a private party so my review I don’t think can be as accurate. I ordered the VIP pasta, the sauce was too thin, they use the same sauce on appetizers so not a specific sauce for the noodles, the noodles were Al dente, the shrimp was good. I tried Butches chicken and the mashed potatoes and veggies, nothing here that I could tell was worth the price. I wouldn’t necessarily go back to change my review, as the prices are exorbitant for a normal restaurant, but I rarely send back food and immediately sent it back. It’s hard to mess up pasta but somehow it was accomplished.

This place is EXCELLENT. It’s pricey, but I think you get what you pay for in this case, and it’s excellent for a rare evening out. My husband has Celiac Disease, so we struggle to find places we can eat fully gluten-free for his health. This place has perfectly accommodated with absolutely zero stress on our part both times we have gone, and the food has been so phenomenal that we haven’t felt our options were really limited (except in the area of dessert, since all of those contain gluten here). If you have allergy needs, they will care for you well at Girasoles.

We highly recommend the shrimp and crab dip (the chips that come with it can be made gluten-free in their dedicated fryer) and the Basil Explosion drink from the bar, but truth be told, nothing we have had was anything short of wonderful!

What a fantastic find for fine dining in a decadent corner of watkinsville. With such a beautiful ambience and wonderful service, I’m excited to try some of the non traditional options that are offered here. On this visit we were fortunate enough to give a try for escargot and a splendid she-crab soup. Such a sweet little corner for romantic evenin or lunch. The all you can eat brunch is always a delight, I’m always excited to experience what is offered here at Grisoles! Let’s not forget, the chocolate passion pie!///
On another evening, we brought the family out for dinner and oh my, how delicious were the specials of the evening! I’m so grateful to have had a lovely experience once again with Chef Jose’s craft in the kitchen! The sea bass and grouper were phenomenal! Thank you for a great birthday!

6 stars if i could!!!!. 3 years in a row at Girasoles. We always eat here for our anniversary and 3 years in a row it doesn’t disappoint!! Great atmosphere, super friendly wait staff, and the food!!. Try the hushpuppy appetizer. You won’t regret it. Sorry theres no food pics. I couldn’t wait.
