Celebrated Valentine’s Day with the husband here (yes- a week early). Great atmosphere and service! Just like its’ sibling Pizza and More.
Our server was friendly, knowledgable about the food and made great recommendations. And, the food!
What can I say? It was FANTASTIC! My husband is Italian and our culinary experience brought him back to the kitchen of his grandmother!
Thank you.
A staff member who wasn’t our server delivered our two entrees, and I thought I heard her say, “…alla Vodka” as she placed mine, so I immediately said I ordered bolognese. There may have been a language barrier, but our actual server quickly approached and agreed it didn’t look like bolognese. He said he would verify and also make sure it was gluten free.
He came back momentarily and verified the GF part. I tasted my very appealing looking dish and said it’s not bolognese. The meat was Italian sausage, not beef ragu. I guess I was expecting a response like, “Let us make you what you ordered” but that never happened. I ate it (it was very good and perfectly made, although not generous with sauce or sausage. Probably <2oz. sausage in the entire plate. I would have preferred more vegetables to more meat. See photo.)
My husband’s sea bass special was equally well made as was the perfectly chilled and very fresh Caprese Salad we shared. The food reminded me of the many multi-generational Italian restaurants I frequented with my family growing up in Pennsylvania. It really was very good, but for a total bill of $150 for two, I didn’t get what I ordered, nor did anyone apologize for that.
For those who are gluten free (I have celiac): Our server explained that the penne is always GF. I have to say, it is excellent GF pasta. Penne alla Vodka is the only penne dish listed on the menu. Supposedly, you can substitute penne in most of the pasta dishes, but I guess that was the hiccup in my case? Anyway, the great news is, I ate safely.
I crave to eat at this local treasure and always look forward to going back! This is certainly a true gem tucked away in an unassuming strip center.
I was glad to have pasta leftover from the shrimp dish.
Oh, and loved the dessert … beautifully plated and delicious to eat.
Since i don’t know how to spell the names, i suggest dining at Giovanetti’s and start your own sampler dishes!
The specials listed sound fab and I’m planning on one of the meat dishes next week.
Didn’t have the ribs, but their sister Restaraunt, Pizza & More makes the best ribs in San Diego…so can’t wait to have them here next visit.
