After spending a few years in Brooklyn New York learning all there is to learn about what a true Deli is, Owner Aleem brought his know how and the New York Style Deli/Bodega back home to the Great State of Texas, hence was born Gino’s Deli and hands down the best Philly Cheese Steak this side of Mississippi!!!!! From its humble beginnings as a small flat top serving a few customers a day it has grown in to a neighborhood institution and a North San Antonio Legend. The menu that once had just 5 items now boasts 25 including 10 home grown innovative sandwiches. Gino’s Deli has been ranked the best Deli in San Antonio every year since 2015 (Yelp), and the 65th best restaurant in United States (Yelp 2018).

First time at Gino’s Deli at Stop & Buy and the experience was solid from start to finish.
As soon as we walked in, the staff helped us through the menu and made ordering easy. We made a few changes (no onions, grilled instead, no pickles) and they handled it with no attitude at all. After ordering, we grabbed chips and drinks and paid. The store clerk was genuinely friendly and seemed excited to talk to every customer.
The sandwich was easily one of the best I’ve had in San Antonio. Great environment, helpful staff, and seriously good food.
Definitely coming back.

Don’t let the unassuming exterior fool you—this place absolutely delivers. The bread is incredibly soft and fresh, which makes a huge difference in a great sandwich. You can also tell the ingredients are fresh and high quality. The Italian sub was excellent with the perfect balance of meats and toppings, and the Philly cheesesteak was very good as well—hot, flavorful, and satisfying. It may look like a simple former convenience store from the outside, but the sandwiches here speak for themselves. Definitely worth stopping in if you’re craving a great sub.

I stopped by and honestly it was such a good experience. The place is very clean. The food is really fresh and you can customize pretty much anything which I love because I am picky. But what stood out the most was the staff. Everyone was so kind and welcoming and you can tell they actually care about what they are doing. It felt like one of those places you want to come back to again just because of how you are treated. Definitely recommend if you are in San Antonio.

I came in and the guy explained to me that it’s not the 9th best sandwich in America. It’s the 9th best sandwich shop in America, which I thought is still pretty cool.
The guy was super excited to have us there as being new. He offered my kids free chips and drinks.
I should have gotten the Italian. I think that’s their most a popular sandwich and I think that’s the one they’re known for. They said they’re also popular for their Philly cheesesteak they’re Philly. Cheesesteak was good but definitely not the best one I’ve ever had. I’m going to go back again and try something else and hopefully I can take the food up to five stars.
He also said he would give back my money if I didn’t like my food. I did eat the whole sandwich. It wasn’t terrible. I just don’t think it would be the best this side of the Mississippi.
But I have had Philly cheesesteak at John’s roast pork in Philadelphia and I’m fairly sure that’s one of the best sandwiches I ever had in my life.

Handsdown the best sandwich shop in San Antonio. The whole family enjoyed thier order. Bread was fresh and ingredients were perfectly grilled/melted to make the perfect taste combo. It’s out of the way from where we live but will go out of our way to come back in the future!

This was my 1st time going here. Picking up my clients favorite sandwich and he got me one to try too. I like Philly cheesesteak but baby all the vegetables that was included on this sandwich had me feeling like I was having a salad sandwich. Don’t get me wrong I need to be eating more vegetables so I appreciated that and combined with the cheese and steak omg it was amazing. Not only was the food great I believe it was the owner who told me since it was my 1st time I can have a sandwich and a drink how cool was that. I would never forget that and thus why I had to go the extra mile to leave a perfect review. I can’t wait to be back in that area to try something else. The staff and their customer service was phenomenal too. You guys are doing a great job keep it up. They already have a Santa mail box up. Go stop by and give them a try and send a mail to Santa

I always see this place when I commute to and from work. I finally got a chance to stop by during my lunch break and I was glad I did. The second I step in I was greeted by a few people and asked if this was my first time. I told them ‘Yes, it is,’ and they walked me through the process of how to order. I got the cheese steak sandwich with everything. I also got the chips and drink combo. The initial bite was amazing! The quality of meat and the way it was cooked was excellent. The bread also was delicious and had absorbed all the juices from the peppers and meat, adding another layer of goodness. I thought the sandwich was a solid 10! I will be coming back to try other items in the following weeks. 100% recommend if you are a person who loves a good sandwich.
