Food was amazing but no one asked if we wanted drinks then when I asked the lady for a beer she said they don’t serve alcohol but I saw 2 tables with beer and hard liquor. There was a table I believe the owners friend getting very intoxicated. I had to use the bathroom and one of the men used it before me and stumbled out when I went in the whole toilet was covered in urine the guy was so drunk he peed everywhere. The waiter didn’t check on us once and I assumed he would considering how much we spent. We ordered a whole lobster and clams but not asked how it was or offered a drink. They were completely occupied by the drunk table. I assume they don’t have a liquor license but they were drinking and being very loud. I don’t think we’ll be back just for that reason.

Food was yummy but BE READY to pay a hefty tips when you check out. Otherwise, the boss would come and REPRIMAND you in front of all other guests. Their service and attitude were absolutely NOT worth the tips they asked for. Would NOT want to go back even though the food was amazing. I was wondering why they didn’t have a full house of guests, now I understand why, it’s NOT about the FOOD, it’s the SERVICE.

Wow, loved this place. The dish that had taro was so good. They have soup dumplings too. Definitely come here when you get a chance. Staff was friendly and nearby ready to serve more dishes. Come hungry and bring your friends and family.

Friendly employees were quick to acknowledge our presence after entering their restaurant. Wait help wear masks and the table we sat on had a sanitizer spray bottle! Dim sum were quickly served. Their manapua (bau) fillings are generous! Char siu bau, custard bau, steamed or baked are delish! They have many varieties of dim sum, beef balls, pork hash, shrimp dumplings, shrimp & vegetable half moons, mochi rice balls, chicken mochi wrapped in banana leaves so moist and tasty, chicken feet puffy and tasty, beef brisket & tendon, egg tarts and more. They don’t, however, have certain dim sum such as tripe or cow’s stomach. There are metered street parking payable by credit card. Across from the restaurant is a parking lot. I’m not sure how much they charge. There’s also the Smith – Beretania Municipal parking garage that is only a few minutes walk away and wheelchair accessible from Ginger & Garlic. The restaurant is open from 10am to 9pm. Dim sum is usually served until 2pm. They accept credit cards. We have eaten dim sum here several times and they do not disappoint.

The taste is good, service is relatively fast, and the interior is decent but from a value perspective the portions aren’t quite worth the price. For a $20+ entree containing fish, chicken, and eggplant it was primarily 95% eggplant, and the meat dishes are enough so that you’re not hungry, but no more than that. I hear great things about the dim sum though, so would recommend you come here for that instead which may be a better value.

Spicy drunken clam, shumai, and I forget the last dish but all were super tasty. Never had a Chinese cold clam dish before but clams were so fresh and juicy and I liked that it wasn’t too salty. Just right amount of greens on top with fresh clams. Hands down the best food we had while we were in Oahu other than Poke places! The staffs were friendly and the place was very clean. Very satisfied.

There were bugs in our water. The dim sum was pretty good especially the dumpling with broth inside. We ordered a steamed fish. The lady said it was 35$. She asked us how big you want the fish. I said I don’t know 1 lb? She said they don’t have. Only 2 lbs. I said ok. That ended up being 75$ for a mediocre slimy steamed fish. The dishes were dirty. I would not go back.

A great place in Chinatown Honolulu to have dim sum. The staff was friendly and quite attentive. It is almost a hole-in-the-wall restaurant compared to other prominent hall-type places where they roll out the carts. The dim sum dishes are readily available, but ordering from the menu for stirred fried noodles, etc., can be of a wait as there were many online/takeout phone orders during lunch hours.

Ginger and Garlic is one of the nice places for friends to get together over a table of good food in the convenience of Chinatown. The picture of Chinese calligraphy, the Chinese landscape paintings hanging on the walls, and the ancient Chinese styled screens on the windows, all combined together create a classical and elegant atmosphere.

They gave us orange chicken that looked more like fried chicken in spoiled ketchup. It was terrible and we tried to return it but they didn’t care about it. As long as they get dishes out and get paid then it’s a good day.
