This place is an absolute hidden gem. A real, no-frills hole-in-the-wall that doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the second you walk in, you know you’ve found something special.
The food? Unreal. Every dish tastes like it was cooked with intention and soul. The spices are perfectly layered, bold but balanced and everything comes out fresh, hot, and insanely flavorful. The butter chicken is silky and rich, the garlic naan is soft with the perfect char, and the biryani is fragrant and packed with depth. It genuinely tastes godly. The kind of meal where you pause mid-bite just to process how good it is.
And the customer service? Top tier. They treat you like family from the moment you walk in. Warm, attentive, and genuinely happy you’re there. No rushed vibes, no attitude, just hospitality done right.
If you’re looking for flashy décor, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for authentic, soul-hitting Indian food with incredible service, this is the spot. I’d choose this place over any trendy, overpriced restaurant in a heartbeat.
10/10. No notes.

The restaurant is tucked away inside the hotel, but the food is unbelievable. All the spices are well balanced, the portions are very generous, and the staff is so friendly.

I’ve been going to Gill’s for years. Everything I’ve had here has been over the top good. The flavors are amazing. The tandoori chicken is perfectly seasoned and smoky. All the curry based dishes are incredibly tasty. The coconut chicken is spot on. The average dish is $12-$15…what a deal! The restaurant is way in the back of the very old Stillwell Hotel. I happened to walk in once when they were unloading their groceries. LOTS of boxes of fresh produce. Not a bunch of canned and frozen stuff. That explains a lot of why the food is so good here. If you like Indian food, this is the place to go…and such a bargain!

This place is located in an office building all the way at the end of the hall. My friends and I went to the restaurant near closing and were treated with so much care.
We decided to get a few items on the menu to share! We went with an appetizer, the dinner deal (which includes rice and 2 sides) and 2 dishes. The Samosas were great! Wish we had ordered more. For the dinner deal, we got the Black Lentil Dal and the Bergen. Then we ordered the Shahi Paneer and the Aloo Gobi (one of my favorite dishes). We got some garlic Naan and Aloo Paratha, I would recommend the ladder!
This restaurant is so underrated! This place has high quality food in a low-key place. The flavors of each dish were delicious!! Great Indian cuisine in DTLA!

The food was super delicious! I ordered the special lunch with two options: butter chicken and aloo gobi. Both tasted great, but the butter chicken was exceptional. We also enjoyed chatting with Jeevan, who served us the delicious food. We’ll definitely be coming back!

This place is amazing and have been operating since a few decades now. I highly recommend it, the owner is very mindful and very attentive. I got a classic veggie thali with extra meat dish. It was mix veggies + chicken tikka masala. I loved every bites of it. Unfortunately that day they did not have pickles. But the quality and taste is perfect! I will go back very soon hopefully!

Food taste was a little bland. Also, they only accept cash or venmo.

Do not expect one of those over the top LA restaurants where you go for the experience more than the food. This place will make you feel like you’re eating at someone’s house; food prepared by the the grandma. Inside is just a room with nicely painted walls, but nothing else. I was skeptical until I tried the food. Every dish felt like it was freshly prepared for me and it was DELICIOUS. Naan nice and fluffy and they took their time preparing every dish (in a good way). Once again, don’t expect anything on interior looks but rather taste. Definitely will be back.
