Very friendly and accommodating staff. All food is made to order and they were able to accommodate numerous allergies. Creative menu with lots of tasty options. Favorites were the salmon bowl and catfish with grits.

Gillie’s is one of those spots that makes you wish you could teleport there every weekend morning. It’s quaint, cozy, and has just the right mix of local charm and lively energy. We went on a Saturday morning, which meant it was absolutely packed, but the tables turned over quickly and the staff kept everything moving with a smile.
If you’re gluten sensitive like me, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how many options there are. I didn’t have to do that awkward “what can I actually eat?” menu talk with the waiter. They’ve got plenty of choices that feel thoughtful, not like an afterthought.
The prices were also a nice surprise. For a college-town breakfast spot that could easily get away with being overpriced, Gillie’s keeps things reasonable without skimping on quality. It’s refreshing to find a place that’s both affordable and genuinely good.
The coffee was excellent, the kind that makes you want a second cup before you’re even halfway through the first.
Between the friendly service, great food, and welcoming vibe, Gillie’s is exactly what a weekend brunch spot should be. Just go early, bring your patience, and let the coffee do the rest.

Great brunch spot!! Food is delicious, big portions, and a great atmosphere. I love that they have GF toast and biscuits and always take care to ask if its celiac or just an intolerance to make sure what you eat is safe for you.

Great place to eat breakfast with family and friends! We’ve eaten here a number of times when visiting Blacksburg and have enjoyed it every time. The mix of flavors and options both taste great and present well too. Note that the menu does not contain meat, but that’s never bothered us even though we’re regular breakfast meat eaters. The atmosphere is very relaxed, always busy – a little loud if that matters to you. Overall, a great spot to eat and enjoy time together.

This is small family restaurant from 1974 and you can see the son of the owner cooking for you in the kitchen!

Amazing vegan options! The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about what is vegan friendly and how to modify things. The food goes beyond typical uses of tofu and gets so creative! My “chicken” tofu tasted just like the real thing, and I was in love with the peanut tofu wrap.

Cute place with nice ambiance. The waffles were delicious, good quality, and hearty. I didn’t even need syrup! I love that the water they give has no ice( unless you request it) and they don’t automatically give you a straw, either.

We gave this place two tries, and they were both very disappointing for a place that’s supposed to be a longstanding Blacksburg institution.
The first attempt we had very slow service and mediocre food. My meal was fine, but my partner’s meal included toast that was so hard she couldn’t bite into it.
This second attempt, however, we couldn’t even get to the food portion. We were told to sit anywhere by the host, who then brought us menus and water. But then our waitress never showed up. The table next to us was also waiting. The waitress eventually showed up for them, apologizing that she didn’t know they were there. She took their order, left, and never came back to take our order. After 15+ minutes of sitting around waiting for someone to come so we could place an order, we eventually left because we were both very hungry and had places to be that morning.
I wanted to like this place since it’s a local, longstanding business, but the service we’ve experienced just makes it untenable. It’s very unfortunate, but we won’t be going back and wasting our time like that again.
