the fried chicken skin had such a good flavor & crunch, you can tell it’s got cornmeal in it too, was a little dry though. The yams were sweet just how I like them, the syrup was a little watery but it’s okay, was perfect to dip my chicken into. The Mac & cheese had good flavor too but was hoping for some baked like style mac n cheese or somethin other than stovetop Kraft like Mac, was still creamy & cheesy tho. The give complimentary cornbread too and it’s sweet & not dried out!
Also ordered the catfish which seemed to be fried almost like the chicken, was good. Ordered some baked beans & they were just missing somethingggg, they tasted good but again, was like a soupy sauce they were in, needed some bbq or somethin too.
For the price & selections, you really can’t beat it. My plate was about $18 and I got to pick my sides unlike places like Roscoe’s where they won’t let you sub the sides to the meals. Portions are excellent, I took home half my yams & Mac & 1 piece chicken..
that customer service will do it every time though. Came around 730 on a Sunday night so whoever was working, I applaud you because good customer service is so hard to find even when it’s the basic/simple service, yall always had a smile on your faces. Thank you for the great meal, cant wait to be back!
The food itself was good, but the service was disappointing. Between the long wait, the missing item, and the fact that no compensation or solution was offered, the experience wasn’t handled well.
Mistakes happen, but good service is about fixing them and in this case, that didn’t happen. Overall, the food was fine, but the service left a lot to be desired. Not a great experience.
Lots of shrimp in the shrimp and grits
All great
This is one of those restaurants where one orders from the board and is given a number, then food gets delivered/served at the table. The menu is clearly written, spacing of menu items is well done, and each of the menu options provides what’s included or what sides to choose from.
Customer service: I was behind two gentlemen, with the older one using the pay system. Kudos to the older gentleman as he did not give up finishing his transaction. The younger gentleman did not appear to help, possibly because he is very patient in waiting, even though I waited, and waited…. I decided to be patient, too. The receptionist who took the order was just as patient I thought. Thankfully there was just me behind waiting… Customer service is pretty good, especially the one who took my order and checked in on me at the table – great smile adds to overall experience.
Atmosphere: Welcoming environment, pretty open inside and out, and clean tables.
Menu: Yes, soul food definitely. I decided on the blacked catfish and I opted for grits and collard greens. I also ordered strawberry lemonade.
A corn muffin with honey butter was served pretty quickly. It was pretty good. I probably should have asked for a lighter seasoning on the blackened catfish as it ended up to be a little strong for me but I ate it all – had to for the price. Pretty good if one likes really blackened catfish. I loved the grits. I could have had two servings of that. The collard greens were exactly how I remembered collard greens – a little bitter but it was good.
I’m not certain about the overall price as it seems to be a bit pricey. The rent and location, prices nowadays, kitchen and customer service staff are probably justified.
My daughter said her Blackened Catfish was good as well her red beans/rice and collars.
