I visited Cape May this weekend for the first time since my Coast Guard graduation in 2022 and decided to have breakfast at George’s Place with my wife. Unfortunately, the experience reminded me that racism still exists, even in places that promote hospitality.
From the moment we sat down, the only interaction we had with our waiter and waitress was to order, receive the food, and pay the bill. They never checked if everything was okay, never offered refills, and completely ignored us the entire time. Meanwhile, every other table around us, filled with white customers, received attentive and friendly service.
When I finally asked for more coffee, the waiter (with an Italian accent or similar) brought it with a bad attitude, spilled some, and didn’t bother to clean it. After paying, I chose not to leave a tip because of the poor treatment, and the same waiter (Italian accent) followed me outside, confronting me and saying it was “disrespectful” not to tip, even though his service was clearly intentional and unprofessional.
The food itself was great, but the service was by far the worst I’ve ever experienced. Being followed outside over a tip after being ignored during the meal was unacceptable. It’s sad that in 2025, this kind of behavior still happens.
To my fellow Coasties and anyone who values respect, think twice before supporting a place that treats people differently based on how they look or speak. Racism is real. Thank you to the male waiter (with an Italian accent) for reminding me of that today, October 25, 2025, between 10:45 a.m. and 11:50 a.m.

I ordered catering for my daughter and her bridesmaids. I wanted something healthy and delicious. We had a tray of chicken, greek salad and other items. The process was super easy and the food was delicious. There was plenty of food for the family and friends that came by to say “Hello”. I highly recommend.

We have been here many times. For the most part the food is fresh and delicious. The hummus and pita bread are the best. Portion size has shrunk but rather normal these days. The short ribs at $36 were maybe 4ozs in the middle of their delicious French fries. Portion size was rationed like they needed to make it last. Not worth anywhere near that price. The salads are good but why not serve them before the entree. The salmon was very good but smaller than other times I have ordered it here Dessert – we ordered the Tiramisu waffle. Well the waffle and the chocolate syrup were delicious but what happened to the mascarpone cheese. I really didn’t see or taste any. Very disappointing.
We should have sent it back. Thank you.

Once you eat here, you get the hype. I’ve been lucky enough to snag a table for lunch, though, it was out of season. I’ve seen many people waiting in the summer line to get their spot and can confirm, the line is worth the wait! I enjoyed a super refreshing salad (I was craving a fresh vegetable) and my mom had a chicken wrap. We were both more than satisfied and were pleasantly surprised with some of the sides that came along with our meal. Very much would recommend stopping by for lunch or dinner… even waiting in the line!

This place is a hidden gem for breakfast. I don’t think many people know about it. I found it searching Google for places near my hotel room. There was no wait at all which I was surprised since it’s a Saturday morning in July and the place is really small.
My husband and I both enjoyed our food. I like the breakfast options. Only negative was the coffee was very watered down. Not sure if I got a bad batch or if they always make their coffee this way. I would definitely come back!

Good service, but the breakfast was only ok.
I got the crab cakes Benedict and my wife ordered the traditional Benedict.
The food came out very quickly. The hash brown was crunchy and good.
The eggs were poached perfectly but the hollandaise kind of ruined both orders for us. Rather than being decadent and savory, it seemed sweet. Adding some salt helped but with everything smothered in it, it was a little disappointing. Additionally my wife’s bacon was not crispy enough for a Benedict and the crab cakes was ehhh.

We love it here! Great value for money, great food. We’ve sampled both breakfast and lunch, both are great! Breakfast has standard offerring and some more creative items (limoncello French toast). Lunch brings out more of a Mediterranean flavor. The Gyro is flavorful and hearty for example. Everything well seasoned, nothing bland, portions not stingy, service is pleasant. Cash only I believe.
Someone mentioned its a hidden gem and I agree, its unassuming. Actually quite refreshing in comparison to other cape may restaurants.

Outstanding breakfast. The wait was totally doable for this little place. Service was slow to reach us, but they were slammed with customers, which is totally understandable. Food was so good. 2x Banana French Toast, tiramisu waffle, crab cake eggs Benedict. Will absolutely return to this local gem.

This place was on my list and we finally got to check it off on our last day there. There was always a line since the place is small but it’s clean and the decor is simple. Waited about 15 minutes. The prices were less than what I expected. Yeah it’s a diner but you know you pay for location. We all had breakfast. Pancakes, French Toast, Eggs, Bagel, Lox, Bacon, Sausage, etc. We could not find a thing to complain about. The hash browns and coffee were exceptional. The service was great, Irene was awesome. Will definetly be going back there on the next visit to try the lunch menu.
