This is such a cute diner. It has a lot of memorabilia on the walls. The menu has a good selection and items are named after different Hollywood actors. Their food is very good. The service was great, our waitress was very nice. I will definitely be back.

Walking into Gene’s is like stepping directly into the 1940s. The retro Hollywood decor, featuring black-and-white photos of classic stars, creates a charming “Mayberry” vibe that you just can’t find elsewhere. The staff remains the highlight; the service is consistently friendly and attentive, making you feel like a regular even on your first visit.
Unfortunately, the value doesn’t quite match the nostalgia anymore. Compared to other local breakfast spots, it has become notably pricey. Our meal for three reached over $80, which feels steep for standard diner fare. Especially when many items, like fries and onion rings, are now à la carte (which I hadn’t noticed before ordering sandwiches). Beyond the cost, the portion sizes have noticeably shrunk; you might leave feeling like you didn’t get nearly as much food as you would have in years past.
Verdict:
Go for the atmosphere and the exceptional staff, but be prepared to pay more than expected for a meal that may not entirely fill you up. It’s still a local institution, but the declining price-to-portion ratio makes it a harder sell for a casual weekly breakfast.

What a nice place to eat at. I ordered a delicious super FRESH cheese burger with a side of the famous buttermilk pancakes. Everything was delicious. Server was excellent, food came out quick. My picky 6 year old ate Everything I put in front of her. That’s when I know it’s good. I live far away but will return if in the area.

Nostalgic place and good service. The price was higher than I expected. You don’t get a side w/ your sandwich/burger. The burger was decent taste wise, but small for the price. You have to pay $4+ for a side of fries and $3.50 for a soft drink. It all added up to be quite expensive for the portion received. Burger, fries and drink cost me $20+ tip. I’d go back if I was in the area and hungry enough, but wouldn’t go out of my way to eat there

What’s not to like at Gene’s place near the corner of Rocky River and Lorraine in the Marcs shopping mall. Take a walk back to the 1930’s 1940’s with all of the nostalgia on the walls. All food options are great with Mom and pops old fashioned cooking. Your sure to have a happy belly when you leave here.

Food was good. Service was great. The large table next to us? They were loud and obnoxious. I couldn’t even hear what my husband was saying to me because they were so loud. They should have been seated in the private dining area or they should have sat us way far away from them. That large group pretty much ruined my experience here.

We stopped in for breakfast with a close friend. When we arrived there was a lineup to get seated, but not to worry. They have this down to a fine art and we were seated fairly quickly. This is a very nice family restaurant. The menu has something for everyone. I had the Western Omelette that came with home fries and toast. The portions were ample and flavourful. If you want to support a local business that serves hearty food and is reasonably priced, this is your place.
