The restaurant is called Flatbread, but don’t get it confused—it’s actually a flat noodle house, not a pizza spot. Prices are fantastic, with the basic noodle dishes starting under $9 and offering generous portions.
I tried the Hot & Sour Hand-Pulled Noodle Soup, and it didn’t disappoint. The portion was solid, with plenty of flavorful marinated tender pork. The noodles themselves were thick, wide, and had an almost gummy chewiness that kept me hooked with every bite. The broth could use a bit more punch—maybe more saltiness and garlic for depth—but overall, it was still very enjoyable, especially at this price point.
It’s set up more like an express-style restaurant, but you can still dine in comfortably. I can definitely see myself coming back here when the weather gets cold!

Emily (who runs the Boston B-Side) suggested this place to me and it was excellent! The noodles were high quality and I really enjoyed the soup on a cold day in Boston. Most people were ordering to go, but me and a friend sat inside. The noodles were thick and had a satisfying bite. Reasonable price too as it was about $17 per person post-tax and tip.

Do not go here for the love of all things holy. They have sold the restaurant to non-Chinese.
Food quality is terrible. Felt stupid for even ordering.

Terrible experience, from the taste of food to the environment and the service. It’s no surprise they close around 6 p.m.—a time when most restaurants are busy—because there’s no reason to stay open. But they do benefit the milk tea stores nearby. The food is too dry and salty, so I had to order some drinks to finish my food. Even though I still couldn’t finish my food, and when I ask for a to go box to avoid the waste, they refuse to provide a to go box! That’s totally unacceptable!

This place was so delicious! Especially great If you love hand pulled noodles and don’t eat/like pork, this is definitely the place for you! The lamb is cooked to perfection and the flavors are amazing.
The hot sour noodle soup was my favorite. For a lighter option the cumin lamb noodles were great as well.

Food has fallen off a bit from the last. Noodle and lamb dish was really delicious. Noodles still great, but the sandwhich was really weak. Used to be one of the best bites in the city now it’s just really solid. Will keep going back though.

This place is a gem slightly outside of Chinatown. They keep a small menu focused on cuisine from Xi’an, with flavors like cumin and Sichuan peppercorns. I went on the coldest day of the year and was thoroughly warmed by their spicy and sour hand pulled noodles. This spot is off the beaten path both in location and flavor, but it is absolutely worth seeking out. You won’t be disappointed.

Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed by Gene’s Flatbread. I was super excited by the photos and reviews on Google but this place felt completely misleading… first when we arrived. The service was very standoffish. Next, we ordered the spicy hand pulled noodles. The flavor profile is completely off, and there was barely any chili paste. It was almost all oil, and then the beef was not very well seasoned at all, and the noodles were soggy and cooked poorly. The dough tasted stale, and it didn’t really even taste like fresh hand pulled noodles at all.:( the veggies were undercooked and bunched up. The ratio is definitely off, and the noodles were huge, and they were really hard to cut, and they were not bouncing at all, and they were so much of meat which was great, but then I felt very overpowering because we thought that the noodles were the highlight of the show! We also ordered the lamb flatbread, but that was very, very dry and pretty unflavorful. Overall, we would not come back and were very disappointed by our experience.

Really tiny hole in a wall place with great Xi’an handpulled noodles. Huge portions and it’s mostly pickup or takeout. Very chewy and generous servings of meat and noodles. Great chef, great staff, just not a lot of service so you should make sure you grab your own chopsticks and napkins before you leave.
