These little hole in the wall BBQ places almost never disappoint and Gene’s BBQ was no exception. We got the Sampler which is a very large sample of all the meats. The meat had a good smokey flavor, was not over-seasoned, and ribs were fall off the bone. The chicken was my fave. Oh, and the beans were oh so good. Check it out if you’re passing through.

Real-deal, family-made BBQ with brisket, chopped beef, and ribs that are about as good as they get, and I’ve had plenty from many places throughout Texas & the KC area. The beans are also awesome… probably their best side item. I haven’t had everything they make yet, but I plan to correct that. I hope they’ll have mac & cheese available next time, since they hadn’t made any when I visited both times, albeit early in the day.

Good old fashioned BBQ. We were on a road trip and we’re hungry for BBQ. So we were happy to find this place. We had sliced brisket. Good service and good food. It’s in a good trailer but they have picnic tables to eat on which is nice.

We have tried most of the BBQ places in the Waco/ Bellmead area. This is not a fancy sit down place, Gene’s is a take-Away place with great BBQ. The good old Texas style that I think is the best around. Texas Monthly must not have tried Gene’s, or they would have made the magazines Top 50 list. JW

Stopped here to eat passing through town and it’s the best BBQ we’ve ever had. So good. And they were super sweet! All the locals seem so nice as well.

I was in Hubbard seeing a patient and the family brought in some BBQ while I was there. It smelled amazing, so I decided to stop and get a plate to take home for dinner. Best decision I could have made! I ordered a Jumbo Plate, which comes with your choice of 3 meats, 2 sides, 2 slices of bread, thinly sliced onion and pickles and 2 sides of BBQ sauce. Due to it being late in the day, they were out of sausage links, ribs and chicken, so I ordered Chopped Brisket, Sliced Brisket and Pulled Pork and ordered Potato Salad and Pinto Beans as my sides. I was not disappointed with anything I ordered. The Potato Salad is sweet, which compliments the sweet BBQ sauce. I usually don’t add BBQ sauce to anything, but I did this time. It was amazing and really brought out the flavors in all 3 meats. The Pinto Beans were great, and even better with the thinly sliced onions that came with my order. All 3 meats were tender, had just the right amount of smoke and seasoning. If I had to pick a favorite on the meats, that’s would be a hard choice. They were all great! You will not be disappointed whatsoever. I am a huge pulled pork fan and usually stay away from the sliced brisket because the places I have gotten it at, is always dry. Definitely not the case today! I paid $16 for the jumbo plate and that price is very reasonable considering the amount of food that is provided. I can’t wait to go back and order the sausage, ribs and chicken. I am 30 minutes from Hubbard, however, I will be making a special trip back just to purchase BBQ! I have family coming in for Easter, so, I am certain BBQ will be on the menu!
