Service: 8/10 (wonderful servers, but short-staffed)
Atmo: 10/10 (clean, fun music, good grills)
Second time here and enjoyed it just as much. Still wished the servers had smaller sections so we saw them more often, but that’s not the servers’ fault. Ours was friendly, helpful, and full of smiles. Had to have swapped our grill top at least 5-6 times. We also had clutch floor assists when she was busy on the other side of the restaurant. Both times we asked the servers for recommendations, they were the best dishes. The bottomless drinks were a contention bc the servers are stretched too thin. They need a full time water, drink, and busser position to cover this, IMO.
I really loved the meat flavors, two biggest highlights being the soy honey beef belly & the beef Bulgogi. Definitely avoid the KFC, fish katsu, breaded shrimp.
Overall, it’s fun and worth it. Just set your expectations knowing the staffing doesn’t allow the attentiveness you’d prefer. Compensate by ordering more at a time and communicating if you’ll be extra thirsty. I think I’ll try asking for a pitcher of water.

I don’t care what the other bad reviews say please check this place out! This is my favorite restaurant in Oregon! The service is ALWAYS ON POINT and consistent!! They always treat you like family!! I wish everyone at this restaurant gets a raise because you guys are amazing and you make the hour drive well worth it! To all the bad reviews please try this place again. Don’t have attitude with the server and be patient if it’s packed because the servers work as fast as they can! Love you GEN

I felt disappointed because many items were sold out. The staff were nice, but unfortunately, I can’t leave a good review. I couldn’t eat any of the things I wanted. I guess it’s understandable since it’s cheap, but I probably won’t go again. I’ve been to the Las Vegas location, which had a wide variety and was really good, so this was disappointing. I understand now why the rating is low..

Had such a great time here tonight! Our waitress was so kind! Would be so fun with a bigger group! We will be back 🙂 the cheese pork katsu was really good! I’d skip the KFC chicken next time. Over all we had a really fun night.

Wanted to give this place a try. Walked in right when it opened. Seated right away. Justin our waiter was excellent. Always checking on us, gave us drink refills, extra napkins and forks. Always came by when we were cooking our last meats asking what we wanted next. We had our grill changed 3 times with no problem. Some of the meats we wanted to try they didn’t have or were still frozen. The appetizers were good to get you by while meats were still cooking. Thinner cuts of meat were definitely easier and quicker to cook. My only suggestion would be to have bigger tables for groups larger than 2. There was 4 in our group and we were constantly running out of space. We will definitely stop by again if in the area.

Great food and service on a hot July Tuesday afternoon. Cedric was very helpful and checked on us often to order more or switch out the grill, even though he was very busy. The atmosphere and decor could use work, and it was stuffy and inadequately cooled (air conditioning on a hot day with gas grills), so that made the experience less ideal. Restrooms were clean, though. I tried the premium menu so that you don’t have to–it was worth it if you are a carnivore and can eat that much meat in 2 hours. We (party of 6) were done in a little over an hour. Too pricey for a regular visit. I’d definitely come back under the right circumstances.

So so good! Had the best service! Daniel our server was so attentive and it’s the best service I have ever had going to a Gen. I have been to them in Hawaii and was hoping it would be just as good here in Portland! It was better!! Thanks Daniel for a great lunch!!!

We came here for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary! We enjoyed ourselves so much! When the host found out that this was our first visit, he offered a thorough explanation of how the all-you-can-eat menu was set up. Our server was Liz, and she was an absolute delight … so cheerful and helpful! We decided to order the premium selection. The wagyu beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, the garlic chicken was delicious, and the garlic bacon was heavenly. Pickled vegetables, rice, salad, mashed potatoes, kimchi, and some oils and salt came with the meal as well! We left completely stuffed! We highly recommend purchasing the gift cards from Costco beforehand! This will be a substantial savings for you! Overall, an absolutely fabulous experience!
