An Incredible Small Business Serving Authentic Geechie-Style Cooking
Geechie Garlic Crabs & Seafood – 1286 Yeamans Hall Rd, Hanahan, SC
I had the wonderful pleasure of visiting Geechie Garlic Crabs & Seafood this week, and I couldn’t be happier that the locals recommended it. Since I’m spending a few weeks in South Carolina, I’ve been searching for the real gems of the Charleston area — and this place is absolutely one of them.

Located in the shopping center off Sellers Rd / Yeamans Hall Rd next to the Piggly Wiggly, the restaurant feels like a true neighborhood spot. As soon as I stepped in, I was greeted by Miss Krystal, who was warm, welcoming, and full of great suggestions. My mouth was already watering just from seeing the menu in person after browsing pictures online.

Inside, the restaurant was very clean, had great music playing, and even had a pleasant, inviting fragrance in the air. The whole vibe felt comfortable, open, and friendly — exactly what you want when you’re checking out a local small business built on pride and community roots.

I ordered a plate with fried whiting, fried shrimp, crab rice, garlic broccoli, and six garlic honey wings because I wanted to sample a little bit of everything and see what the Geechie chef was working with.
Everything was excellent:

The garlic honey wings were cooked perfectly, juicy, and coated in a sauce that hit every note — sweet, savory, and full of flavor.

The fried whiting was seasoned well, fried to perfection, and the breading was on point.

The shrimp were fresh, juicy, and tasted great.

But the biggest surprise for me was the crab rice and garlic broccoli — WOW. Both were first-time experiences for me, and the flavors were unlike anything I’ve had before. Unique, rich, and absolutely delicious.

You can tell this place is built on love, hard work, and Amazing Geechie-style cooking — the kind of authentic coastal flavor that you just can’t fake. Nothing here tastes rushed or generic. Everything tastes handcrafted, intentional, and rooted in real culinary skill.

Small businesses like this deserve all the support they can get. Your dollar stays in the community, and you’re supporting people who genuinely care about the food they serve and the customers they welcome. Miss Krystal and the staff made me feel like family, not just another order.

I will definitely be returning before I head back to Texas. I’m already planning to try the fried salmon and fried oysters, and I’m sure they’ll be amazing too.

If you’re a seafood lover in the Charleston or Hanahan area — or even just passing through — do yourself a favor and stop by Geechie Garlic Crabs & Seafood. It’s clean, friendly, and full of the kind of flavor you can only find in a small business that takes pride in its craft.

This is a true local gem, and it deserves to be celebrated.

From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. We’re visiting from Florida, and this spot was at the top of our Charleston must‑try list—and it did not disappoint.

We ordered the snow crab and shrimp, as well as the blue crab and shrimp. Both dishes came with corn, potatoes, and eggs, and everything was cooked perfectly. We also tried the crab rice, and let me tell you… every single bite was AMAZING. The seasoning was spot‑on, and that garlic sauce was pure finger‑licking goodness.

If you love seafood, this place is an absolute must‑stop. Fresh, flavorful, and unforgettable.

The establishment is in a nice clean space. Compared to other seafood places that carry similar options, the prices are fair. The customer service was excellent. I came here to grab a nice spread for my mom’s bday weekend. Saturday was cold and rainy, so having a lot of nice hot food around that she could enjoy as we relaxed was the goal. Geechie Garlic helped me to accomplish this, and the food was great!

My only critique, unless there is a specific reason of why not, would be to update the online ordering menu. There are a few things that aren’t listed that they actually do carry ie. Salmon bites or fried crab- standalone. Also, some of the trays could be a little more discriptive of what’s included, or just state it once above the tray section. There are also parts where there is more of a discription, but the words are chopped off. Lasting the four meat tray option does not actually let you pick the fourth meat without adding an extra fee.

With that said, there were a few items that I ended up ordering separate from my online order inside the establishment. It wasn’t a big deal for me because I came in way before my pick up time anyway. Keep up the great work! I will recommend, and I will definitely be returning.

The service was great. The beautiful young lady that took my order was so sweet and personable—which is why I hate to even write this review, but I have to be honest. My crabs were mush on the inside. Like, the meat was an actual paste. It was beyond soft, soggy meat. And as a blue crab lover and a low country girl, I know that it’s only because the crabs had died before being prepared. I was too afraid to eat it. My mom wanted me to go back and return it, but again, the service was so good, I didn’t want to be an inconvenience. I’d recommend making sure crabs haven’t died prior to cooking. The crab meat was literally mush.

I ordered take out but the place had a bar like feel with tvs. First off I ordered over the phone and I was charged $22 when I clearly told the order taker no sausage but they gave me sausage anyway. Me not realizing that she charged me anyway for something i did not want. I dont like beef sausage. When u got home I realized they piled my order with sausage and I only got nine shrimp even I payed for the 12 stand alone. The food was a bit salty so I wasn’t too happy about that. I probably won’t eat here again. The garlic crab place in Moncks Corner has way better service and way better food.

We had the “Messy Fingers” platter. Boiled crab, oysters, shrimp, lobster, corn and potatoes, smothered in a seasoned butter garlic sauce that is a life experience. This was by far the most amazing seafood I have ever had and I usually criticize taste. I usually think to myself how I could have cooked or seasoned it better, but hands down I could never prepare something as good as what we had. Would highly recommend . And the owner/cook was a delight to speak to. The server was also amazing. Great people, amazing food, good vibes all around.

First time trying the food and I was pleased. Very nice restaurant in Hanahan. The service was awesome. Very flavorful and delicious food. Prices were good especially for the portions you get. You even get a complimentary drink which was a nice touch. The only thing I didn’t like was their seating arrangements for dining in. There were very low couches and high top tables for dining in. It can be uncomfortable for individuals with legs, knees, and back problems. Never the less inside was very clean and welcoming. I will definitely come back.

Stopped in on a whim before a snow storm about to hit. Wasn’t rushed got a chance to have good conversation before good got to the table. But man the food was amazing. Had the crab rice bowl. It was so good and so filling.

I from out of town and I was passing through and wanted to grab some seafood. I found this place and saw it had great reviews so I placed an order for pickup. After placing the order, my order confirmation indicated that it would be a 30min wait. It was 4:31pm when I placed my order so I went in about 4:45pm just to check on my order and expecting to wait for about 15mins. The young lady at the front told me to give them a few minutes. While I wait there were several people complaining about how long they have waited. Well, I waited with an understanding that there were a lot people waiting for their orders. 5:20 comes around and I realize I’ve been waiting for almost an hour so I go to get an estimated wait time and the young lady tells me they are working on my order now. 5:38 comes around I ask her again and she tells me 5mins. At this point I can’t wait any longer because I need to get on the road. So I waited for 5 more minutes and still did not get any food and told them to just give it away because they have a no refund policy. I ordered a fried shrimp basket and a shrimp Taco. Again, I understand the waiting because they may have been slammed with orders. But waiting that long for what I order was just insane to me. My time, and money wasted. I should have been able to receive a refund. I just hope my order was given to someone if it was ever completed.

I went becuase i seen it on tiktok. looks good. The line was long and a female came out saying it was going to be a 30 min wait so I left. I came back couple weeks later. Placed order for din in it took 35 to 45 min after the order to get it. Food was good. But not worth the wait. But server was nice. But time with getting food out needs to be worked on.
