Fantastic dinner – again!

There is that worry going back somewhere that was amazing. When my daughter wanted to return to Gavroche for her birthday, I hoped it would live up to our last visit. They nailed it again last night.

Firstly, the intimate restaurant is comfortable and the service is fabulous including the ever present, gregarious Jason Chan who just happens to be passionate about food.

And the food – so delicious, so richly French, and now I can attest consistently fantastic!

The egg starter is an absolute must. Also highly recommend the foie two-ways, heirloom carrots, charred leeks, and orange duck (all repeat dishes that we devoured and considered licking the sauce from the plates!) We sampled a few specials – same amazing flavors and beautiful presentation. Add in a pair of cocktails were unique and well balanced (Dirty Word was my favorite!) and what a meal!

Highly recommend Gavroche: great date spot works equally well for family dinner or out-of-town guest.

Come for the food, enjoy the hospitality!

Gavroche offers a unique and intimate dinner experience. We attended for my dad’s birthday dinner, but it would be great for date night or a night out with friends as well. The staff were attentive and made the experience special by describing each dish and answering all of our questions, particularly our server Brooklyn. We loved the atmosphere and each dish that came out, including my personal favorites: the French onion soup, gnocchi Parisian, and parsley rose.

Truly an exceptional experience from start to finish! If you’re at all apprehensive about trying French cuisine, the staff here will break down every entrée and explain exactly what is in the dish! If you’ve had French cuisine before, I promise it wasn’t like this! Each dish, better than the last, and always with a quirky, but delicious, twist on a classic! There’s truly no way to describe how delectable the food was, you simply must try for yourself. Highly recommend the King Louis as well as their brilliant take on the classic French onion soup and make sure to start with the Oeuf Arpège!

Gavroche delivers an elevated brunch experience that’s well worth the visit. The eggs Benedict was perfectly executed with rich hollandaise and expertly poached eggs, while the croissant sandwich was buttery and satisfying with an amazing coq au vin and jus. The cocktail program is also upscale and while drinks are a bit small they’re quite tasty.

The service really stood out during our festival weekend visit. Our server was engaging and conversational, adding to the lively atmosphere without being intrusive. The extensive wine list is clearly a point of pride, and their rosé paired nicely with brunch.

While it’s on the pricier side the quality of food and overall experience justify the cost. Gavroche strikes that balance between upscale dining and approachable weekend brunch vibes. Great spot for a special occasion or when you want to treat yourself to something beyond the typical brunch fare.

We had a one of a kind dining experience at Gavroche last night. When we entered, we were greeted warmly by Jason, the owner, and a few of the wonderful servers. From then forward, we were treated as if we were the only guests in the restaurant.

Amazing food isn’t hard to find in the city of Chicago and this is no exception but the service, attention to detail, and hospitality is what puts it above and beyond. Jason even took the time to visit our table and write down recommendations for the rest of our trip. This should top your list of must-try restaurants in the city.

Our highlights: the Lyonnaise, the Yellowtail Crudo (pictured here), the Duck A L’Orange, and the fries (fried in beef tallow, incredible seasoning blend, and a delicious aoili). It was all too good to get too many pictures before diving in and I’m not sorry about it.

This is truly one of the best places I’ve visited recently. I absolutely love when the presentation of dishes is not only beautiful but also shows how much the chefs genuinely care. I tried the fish, the duck, the ratatouille, and the desserts — everything was simply delicious!
To my surprise, when I went to the restroom, I noticed cutouts from one of my favorite paintings, The Garden of Earthly Delights — such an unexpected and delightful coincidence! It left me amazed.
A solid 5 stars for everything!
P.S. If I could suggest one tiny touch — playing some French music would transport the customers straight to the Champs-Élysées! ✨

We loved our dinner here. The OEuf Arpège was delicious. We also liked the gnocchi and chicken but small portions. Our waitress Brookelyn was fantastic. She was personable and explained the menu well. Would definitely eat here again. Dogs are welcome on the patio.

Stopped by 2 weeks ago on a Monday and I was pleasantly surprised. 50% off bottles of wine and Caviar, how can you go wrong. Also this restaurant is very Foi forward, what does this mean… Foi on everything and with thick slices not the skimpy slice. Staff was great and very helpful with wine and food choices.

Gavroche is a gem. The food, the service and the atmosphere were all excellent. Started with the Jean Val Jean cocktail which was unique and delicious.

The oeuf appetizer stood out for its presentation as well as taste. We had a hard time choosing a favorite entree – there were no weak links. The A5 ribeye was amazing.

The wait staff is knowledgeable and attentive and professional. We really had a great experience and I look forward to more great meals there.

Dining at Gavroche is always such a special experience. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with genuinely warm hospitality that makes you feel right at home. Jason and his team have clearly put so much thought into every detail—from the beautiful, cozy decor to the thoughtful service. And the food? Absolutely outstanding. We’ve made our way through just about everything on the current seasonal menu, and every dish has been consistently delicious. The wine list may be small, but it’s carefully curated—every glass I’ve tried has been fantastic. Gavroche is a true gem.
