Gary’s New York Deli is hands down the most authentic slice of NYC you’ll find in Laguna! This hidden gem has become my go-to spot whenever I’m craving a proper deli experience without the cross-country flight.
Their tuna melt deserves its own special recognition – perfectly toasted bread with just the right amount of butter, generous portions of house-made tuna salad (not too much mayo, plenty of flavor), and cheese melted to golden perfection. It’s consistently excellent every single time I order it, which is saying something in this day and age.
The outdoor patio is absolutely the place to be, especially on those perfect Southern California days. It’s thoughtfully designed with both sunny and shaded areas, comfortable seating, and enough space between tables that you don’t feel like you’re dining with strangers. The ambiance is actually surprising for a Deli and strikes that perfect balance between casual and charming, with potted plants and subtle lighting that makes evening dining equally pleasant.
Beyond the tuna melt, their entire menu is stellar. The pastrami looks tender, the rye bread fresh, and their pickles provide that perfect garlicky crunch. Portions are generous without being wasteful, and prices are fair for the quality and quantity you receive. Can’t wait to go back and try more!
The staff deserves special mention as well – they’re knowledgeable about the menu, efficient with service, and genuinely friendly without being intrusive. It’s clear they take pride in the place, which shows in every aspect of the experience.

Went to Gary’s New York Deli. Got to try the pastrami sandwich. We got to sit in the back patio area where there is plenty of shade and a table to sit at. Our dog Penny ate with us . We were welcomed with some turkey for her. Everyone was very friendly and we are excited to try more items next time. The sandwiches are very filling and plenty of drinks to choose from. After lunch, we walked to Inspiration Point and it was only a 10 minute walk to the beach. You see everyone’s beautiful homes on the walk to there and we enjoyed it.

This place was like so friendly, like apart of the community. The owner was so accommodating to ever question, and the History of this establishment was Amazing!!! The food stood on its own,and the New York Italian sub was so filling I ate it for Brunch and Dinner. Best Sandwich I have had on the West Coast, So far! I will be back soon! Garys Deli offers a range of food, from sandwiches made with your choice of deli meats to burgers and even tacos! Stopped on our lunch break while working in the area yesterday, i had the double cheeseburger with bacon and the banana shake. Both were very delicious ! I want to try the meatball sub next time, very soon.. Highly recommend! Friendly service, and little to no wait! Clean tables out back with shade. What more could you want? 5 stars ⭐️

We are from Utah and stopped by the deli on our way to the Tide Pools. Best Pastrami Sandwich I’ve ever had. My wife had the freshest Veggie Sandwich. I could hear the crunch on the fresh veggies. The staff was very friendly. Great Atmosphere.

Well one of my favorite sandwich’s to review on is the pastrami! Gary’s did a fantastic job! The service was excellent and fast! Very friendly and the quality of the sandwich are very good. They recommended adding diced jalapeño to the coleslaw and it is stellar!
