We had came from Fayetteville and decided to try this restaurant because the drive thru menu looked amazing. We decided to go in and the staff was fantastic the cashier to the cooks. I think the lady that helped us was Keysha and another young lady. They both was very friendly and made us feel welcomed. We started heading down the road and the food was still steaming out the box(came straight out the grease). We got about 4 plates for 30 dollars which is amazing.

Ok WOW! What a gem of a southern food restaurant in Rocky Mount this Gardners location is! Jadan was such a breath of fresh air as she took my order. Amazing customer service skills and kindness that I rarely see anymore! The service was also fast and delicious . The manager Tanja is a sweet soul who really cares about her restaurant, customers and employees and treats you like you are home for a visit! Was honored to meet her and see her interactions.So if you are looking for great food in a great location with a no drama atmosphere and you are treated like family this is your place in Rocky Mount! OH and they have a drive through which is super convenient!

They charge way to much for a side order of collards and then they didn’t even fill up the very very tiny container. I will never ever ever buy anymore collards from them. And don’t let me get started on the lemonade it was not worth the price either. I will take my business else where. And the lady working the window was not very nice, she could at least smile since she dealing with the public, that’s what they told me when I was a cashier.

I’ve never left a review for a restaurant, but I just had to for Gardner’s! The food was delicious! Classic southern food, well-seasoned…everything we had was GREAT! Very friendly staff…truly went out of there way to make us feel welcome. Felt like coming home to eat Sunday dinner at Grandma’s back in the day. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! (Also very reasonably priced…only $24 for two of us…for full plates and tea.) We’ll be back

I went into the Gardners on Sunset recently and was hoping to get a piece of homemade cake that they serve at this location, but was told that the manager that used to make them is longer employed. I hadn’t been there in a few months and was sad to hear Anthony was gone. He was always nice when I came in and his desserts were very good! I still got my usual order while I was there but was missing my fix for my sweet tooth.

I’ve eaten my way through NC BBQ joints from the mountains to the coast. I smoked more butts than I can rember, but this place has lowered the bar. I can usually tolerate dirty tables, a sassy cashier or even dry Q, but this place hit the trifecta today. Keep driving and maybe hit up McCalls, Wilbers or Parkers for some authentic ENC BBQ with a side service and atmosphere.

If I could give less than 1 star I would! We went to the Gardner’s on Sunset Ave. Saturday evening about 6:25pm. There was about 3-4 cars in front of us. After about 35 mins waiting in the drive through that you cant get out of line due to bushes and curbing, we got to the window finally!! We waited about 8 mins before the very rude and uncaring server finally came to the window. We paid because we thought well we have waited this long lets just get our food, the server said “We are out of butterbeans.” It was 7pm and your out of butterbeans? So, we waited some more to get our food. My husband had to use the restroom since now we have been waiting 45 mins, paid our money and here we still sit! My husband came out of the restaurant and said it was disgusting inside! He took pictures of how nasty the restroom was. After that we decided to get our money back ($40!) and move on! As the other worker there was standing against the counter with her arms crossed doing absolutely nothing, I asked for a refund. The server said “well your food is coming now!” Ok fine, we got our food after 48 minutes!!! We are needless to say UNHAPPY!
When we got home and started pulling out our food, we were disappointed again! I had A BBQ sandwich with fries, it was fine. My husband had a combo plate and since they were out of butterbeans, they gave him double cabbage. The cabbage was cold, and almost all stems! it was gross! He had boiled potato’s. There was 1 potato in there, not cut up, and practically RAW! NASTY!!!! He was supposed to get dark meat, well the tiny little piece he got was cold when we got home! We live less than 5 minutes away! My sister’s plate had potato’s as well and they were burnt and gross, as well as almost all cabbage stems!
This is just unacceptable!!! a 48 min wait for uncooked, nasty food! I tried to call there to let them know how disappointed we were and there was never an answer! I dont mind waiting some extra time for food, but I expect it to be edible! We are so frustrated and mostly disappointed.
