I ordered sweet and sour pork plate for $11.25 and “WOW” the quantity was a lot. It felt like it was over 2 pounds. Two scoops of rice and macaroni salad and loads of sweet and sour pork, which I could not finish so I brought home the leftover for my dinner. The food is great and the service is great. This is a great cheapeats spot.

Great customer service, friendly atmosphere, owner was great. Food portion was amazing. Highly recommend Garden Island Cafe over many other Chinese Restaurants in Waipahu. Especially Jade Garden…Jade’s Customer Service is nonexistent and they don’t like their customers. Will definitely be back and refer others to Garden. Did I mention crazy food portions? My box didn’t even close. Multiple meals in one and phenomenal price/value. Happy and Grateful I found this place. Farther from home but definitely worth the extra hike.

Great taste, value, and portions are very generous. Have visited several times now trying the cold ginger chicken, chicken katsu, and ordering 2 party pans of gaugee and noodles for holiday parties. Every phone order has been ready on time and was hot and fresh. Every walk in order was prepared and ready faster then the “fast food” restaurants nearby. Will always be near the of the list when we’re in the area or need catering.

If you’re looking for salt n pepper chicken this is not it, it’s more of a garlic chicken. Their fried chicken was great. Their gau gee and crab Rangoon was tasty and stuffed, great quantity. Fried rice was good. Walnut shrimp wasn’t the greatest to me but my husband enjoyed it. Sweet n sour spareribs had some dry ribs so hard to chew but the taste of the sauce was good. Their Mac salad was tasty.

The star was definitely their crispy fried chicken and fried rice for me.

Garden Island Cafe is a must “go to” local restaurant. They have a huge menu. The portions size is also huge, the food is delicious and the prices are extremely reasonable.
The service is friendly. They have a small but cozy dining area.
I should have left this review before I left the island but I’m going back for my reunion and I plan to eat here. Can’t wait.

Wow! What a huge amount of good bbq and katsu chicken on the combo plate. One order of combo could easily could feed two happy eaters!!! They had to tape the overflowing container shut! Broccoli and beef was equally as generous! Even the Mac salad was delicious. Loved that they look to be an old school restaurant with very generous portions.

I would not recommend. We got the mochiko chicken with rice to go and it tasted really good & soft. But after we almost finished the whole plate, I found this bug in the food. We completely lost appetite and I’m worried that we had consumed other bugs without realizing it. Tasty food but not clean.

3/23/2022 So excited that I could have takeout dinner from Garden Island Cafe today! Called in an order to a friendly sounding lady for one order of egg rolls, one order Singapore noodles, one mini chicken cutlet no rice all mac salad, and one mixed plate with spicy pork eggplant and fried fish. In my experience, they’re very flexible when it comes to making different combo plates and requests like all mac salad no rice. Awesome of them! It was ready when hubby went to pick it up and he said he didn’t have to wait. All the food was packed neatly and my plate, which was the spicy pork eggplant and fried fish, was wrapped in plastic wrap so it wouldn’t spill/leak. Then the boxes were in a cardboard box and they were taped down with masking tape. I love when a restaurant packs their food well! All food was delicious! Hubby said that the Singapore noodles were a little salty but good. I loved my spicy pork eggplant because the eggplant was exactly the texture that I like, not too firm and not super soft, and the sauce was tasty. This wasn’t spicy at all, which was fine with me. The fried fish came with two big fillets, one on top of the other. It was crispy and not soggy and the fry mix coating had lots of flavor. Hubby tried to get me to make tartar sauce but it wasn’t necessary because the fish was so tender and yummy! Garden Island Cafe never disappoints! Hope we can eat takeout from here again soon.

1/14/2022 Called in a takeout order for two mixed plates, one Hamburger Steak and Korean Chicken and the other, Salt & Pepper Pork Chops and Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings. It seems that they can make mixes of all their menu choices. Got there in about ten minutes and waited a little bit for both plates to be ready. We were the only customers as it was 5pm, early for dinner. Husband liked his Hamburger Steak and Korean Chicken and ate the entire plate! My pork chop was crispy without being dry and had lots of flavor. The Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings were tasty, a little spicy, and covered with chopped garlic. Garlic lovers would enjoy this! Both items were on a lot of crunchy cabbage with white rice and Mac salad. The Mac salad was a little too mayonnaisey for my taste but still yummy. I can make at least three more meals from my leftovers. They give a lot! And the total for the two plates was $24.35! We’ll be back to try their other plates. They’ve got so many choices!

Family owned Cheap Eats hole in the wall restaurant in Waipahu that serves Local and Chinese food. Prices have adjusted due to the rising costs but you can still get Weekly Lunch Specials for $9.75 and All Day Specials for $10.25. Friendly counter lady that gives excellent customer service everytime i visit. Cant be beat these days, their plates are massive and usually dont fit in the food containers. Their Chicken Katsu, Cold Ginger Chicken and Korean Chicken are my faves. *Tip. Call in your order to avoid waiting since parking lot and restaurant can be busy at times*
