What an incredible experience beginning to end. The restaurant is warm and inviting, the staff very friendly and knowledgeable – all of their recommendations were fantastic.

A huge thanks to David and Chef for ensuring our dinner was impeccable. I have some significant dietary constraints and wasn’t sure I would be able to participate with the rest of the group in the storied tasting menu. However, David was most kind in coordinating with me in advance a full presentation with modifications to ensure I could enjoy the evening.

Everything from the Ahi, to the beets, to the swordfish, salmon, carrot and the most incredible apple and coconut sorbet was delightful. Truly a unique and inviting experience, highly recommend.

I came into Garde Manger extremely excited. Chuck Hughes is undeniably a talented chef, and expectations were high given the restaurant’s reputation. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to it.

We opted for the $295 tasting menu per person and asked the bartender to curate a cocktail and wine pairing alongside it. For the price point which was well over $500 per person all in, the meal lacked focus and cohesion. None of the dishes truly stood out or felt memorable. The menu skewed surprisingly bland and safe, especially considering the bold, flavor driven cooking Chuck Hughes is known for.

The pairing felt sloppy and disconnected from the food, more like an afterthought than a considered progression that elevated the courses. At this level of dining, execution and intent matter just as much as ingredients and that consistency wasn’t there.

This isn’t bad food by any means, but it is wildly overpriced for the experience delivered. Given the cost, I expected sharper flavors, clearer vision, and a more polished overall experience

Great spot in old town Montreal. I was there solo for less than 24 hours in a work trip and was looking to have a nice meal. I got the 6 course tasting menu with the blue crab toast add on. Would say that the crab toast and the seafood platter were my favorite dishes but everything was well made and delicious! That said, I felt the sauce on the last dish was a bit too heavy in butter and not well seasoned enough. Overall though, I had a good meal. It was on the pricy side but worth it!

Also the espresso martinis fantastic, and if you can, I’d sit at the bar and hang with Emma! She’s the best!!

When living in Montreal, we were spoiled with incredible restaurants, but Garde Manger is truly in a league of its own.

Speaking from experience as locals, this place is a vibe. The team is a vibe. The energy, the music, the atmosphere, it all just works. And the food? Impeccable every single time. Fresh, beautifully prepared, and consistently outstanding. The chocolate dessert is hands down our favorite.

My husband and I have been here more times than we can count, and each visit the team has gone above and beyond. We hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner here and it was unforgettable.

In Montreal, dining is a cultural experience, not just a meal. If you’re in MTL, make it a point to experience the food and atmosphere here at least once.

Thank you Garde Manger! Keep doing what you’re doing.

We had dinner here while visiting in town for my birthday. This was a very good choice indeed. Cooking recipes from chef Hughes at home, was interested in seeing where it was coming from and how it was made in house.
We opted for the tasting menu with all the bells and whistles. (Go big or stay home we say). Everything was top notch. The surprise dish for us was a carrot “3 way” side dish. It was absolutely fantastic with a slow cooked carrot purée on the bottom that I want to have every day of my life.
Chef Hughes did come over and talk to us for awhile, which was a great surprise and made the experience for my birthday oh so special.
Thank you to the team at Garde Manger for making it special.

Merci beaucoup! What a fantastic experience. I ordered the chef’s choice and was not disappointed from appetizers to dessert, every single bite was absolutely delicious. The bartender, a young woman, was both professional and impressively knowledgeable about wine and cocktails. The service, ambiance and music top notch. Highly recommended if you only have time for one restaurant in Montreal, make it this one!

I’ve been coming here for years, and it never disappoints. The quality is always outstanding, and the creativity in every dish continues to surprise and impress me. It’s one of those rare places where you feel the passion in every bite.

The tasting menu is, in my opinion, an absolute must. It’s a beautifully curated journey through inventive, seasonal flavors – each course more intriguing than the last. What sets the experience apart even further is their thoughtful wine pairing by the glass. The staff takes the time to match each pour perfectly with your food, enhancing the whole experience in a way that feels both refined and personal.

The service is always warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming. The team strikes that perfect balance of attentiveness without being intrusive. They make you feel like a regular, even on your first visit.

In short: amazing food, impeccable pairings, and a staff that makes you want to come back again and again. A truly special place.

What an experience. Firstly a shout out to whomever hires the staff. We interacted with 4 different people and all were authentically friendly and very competent. Water was always full and napkins folded if we stepped away from the table. I tried folding my napkin before I got up and they recognized the rubbish job I did and refolded it. Jordon took care of us but there was a team working with him to ensure we had the best experience.

We had the 5 course chef menu and were impressed with the selection with each course. The seafood plate was amazing and included a half lobster. Each course had a sampling of 3 different dishes which were all excellent.

Jordan was happy to explain the dishes when we had questions and made sure we had the best experience. Highly recommend!
