Burgers are really good for a primarily Mexican place, and they have the best chilaquiles in the area.
Good kids menu selection as well as many desserts
For dinner tonight, we ordered the Garcia Burger (pictured), the Salem Burger (no cheese), and the Garcia’s Club (pictured), with two sides of cheesy rice and one had aioli chips. Unfortunately, this visit was a disappointment.
When I called in, I was told the order would be ready in 15–20 minutes, which was fine. Upon arrival, I was informed they were out of aioli and had substituted plain chips. I requested to switch that to another cheesy rice instead, but the response from staff felt dismissive, as though my request was an inconvenience even though they were out of what I ordered…. My order was already bagged behind the counter, but it still took extra time, like a longer than normal wait for the switch just for them to make the change. Once home, we found that one of the rice sides didn’t even have queso or it was so minimal it didn’t taste right.
The Garcia’s Club which we’ve ordered multiple times before was also not up to its usual standard. The sandwich was soggy and overall sloppy, the tomatoes were warm and mushy, and it had an overwhelming pile of onions. Based on our visits, the consistency of the food really seems to depend on who is cooking; we’ve noticed better quality when the women are preparing the food compared to the young male or the older couple.
While we still appreciate the clean environment and friendly owners, the inconsistency and lack of care in tonight’s order left us disappointed. We hope to see more consistency across staff in the future when we return. When you spend money on higher quality food you expect just that and tonight, our $50 meal sucked.
The breakfast here is really good and authentic if you are wanting more of a Latin feel.
Very nice staff.
Very good prices for what you get.
The ham has its own flavor that is not the typical flavor and I like that.
Hope to come back soon.
The tacos al pastor? Pure joy. Perfectly seasoned pork, a little kiss of pineapple, fresh onions and cilantro… basically, everything a taco should be but rarely is. The chilaquiles? They hit you with the crunch, the sauce, the cheese, and suddenly you’re wondering why you ever wasted your life eating nachos from a gas station. And here’s the kicker: it’s not just these two dishes. Everything on the menu tastes fresh, made with love, and cooked by people who actually care. You can feel it in every bite.
The service is as warm as the food, kind, helpful, and they’ll make you feel like you’re family even if you just wandered in off the highway in stretchy pants. There’s plenty of parking, super easy on and off from I-81, and it beats the pants off any chain within 100 miles.
So, whether you’re local to the Salem/Roanoke Valley or just passing through, do yourself a favor: support this gem. Skip the fast food, eat some of the best tacos in Virginia, and leave with zero regrets (except maybe that you didn’t order more).
