I tried cali steak zapato and I love it. At first I doubted I will like it but I think this is one of the best rice less burrito in town. They have large serving portion and the price is reasonable. I think the place is popular to employees working nearby. For us, this is a very cool place to get food after a drink. The staff are accommodating and friendly. The vibe of the place is retro and this kind of restaurant really gives you good vibes. I will try eating here again. 🙂

You know how you have a favorite restaurant for “X”? That’s how Garaje started out for me, I would come here purely for the zapatos, my favorites are… the cali steak, surfer leo, rolls royce, steak, surfer vero… ahh damn they are ALL GOOD! The portions are big so I didn’t try anything else for the longest time.
BUT when I finally ventured beyond zapatos I was surprised in the best way, the burgers are solid, the fried crab sandwhich is really good… the owner Alfredo convinced me to try the ‘seared ahi taco’ and OMG a) I’ve never had a taco like this before and b) I wish I had tried it sooner it was so good! Honestly you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.
The staff are super nice, the vibe is very casual, moody (dim lighting), non-pretentious, with a lot of beer on tap and drink options. My only warning is that the food is on the heavier side so definitely prepare for a food coma afterwards lol.

No pics but it’s a great “dive.” The dishes are very original and flavorful. I had the spicy chicken sandwich and a friend had the fish tacos. Sounds unoriginal, but the flavors are what make it special. We didn’t even order sides and were very satisfied with the portions. They also have a great variety of brews to choose from to go with the meal. I’m definitely going back. The atmosphere is great, even if it gets crowded, it wouldn’t feel like it. There’s good spacing between tables unlike a lot of places in San Francisco. The decor is slightly rustic and good atmospheric Latin music in the background, not too loud at all.

Got the Cali steak burrito, phenomenal. Steak was easy to chew, texturally everything’s a little “soft”(guac, pico, cheese, salsa, fries) but that’s perfect to me for a burrito. Fries did a nice job of replacing the carb from rice.

We usually get the burgers and do highly recommend them as they are delicious and very satisfying.
This time we each tried something different for takeout: my husband got the OG zapato and like that very much. I got the spicy fried chicken sandwich, which to me did not register as spicy enough.. plus the BBQ sauce with it was just too much sweetness which I would also not prefer for a “spicy fried chicken sandwich”. Others may like this if they can only tolerate a little amount of heat, which is balanced by sweet- it’s just not for me.

My chicken sandwich was good, but I think I should have ordered a burger or something more special. Killer fries. Wonderful atmosphere. A must try for lunch or dinner.

Wow really good place. Everything on the menu looked good. I decided to go with the hot chicken sandwich . Thought of getting a burger or a steak but decided to go with something I couldn’t get usually. Also I wanted to say wow I loved ambiance and decorations all over the walls. If you have a chance, in the area or want to try something new before going to the Giants game give this place a try. You’ll be glad you did
