I am in Salt Lake City on business and just went to grab a bite to eat that was close to my hotel, Gallo Loco came up in a Google search and their menu listed Quesabirria, and being from Texas, I’m a sucker for Tex-Mex and love Birria. This place blew me away, it was less Tex and much more Mex. It was the best Mexican meal I’ve ever had. Every component of the meal was superior, the rice, the charro beans with salchicha, the ensaladas…normally I’m used to the tacos being the star, but here everything stood out and was excellent. My only complaint is not being here long enough to go back again, but if I’m ever in town again, it will be my “go to”. Thank you so much Gallo Loco, please open locations in Texas!!!

We tried El Gallo Loco and the food was a big disappointment.
The service was great and the restaurant itself was very clean, so I’ll definitely give them credit for that. The cashier was incredibly friendly and kind. However, the food just didn’t deliver.
I ordered the torta cubana, and it was completely drenched in oil. I’m assuming it came from the carnitas. I understand carnitas can be greasy, but this torta was literally sitting in a pool of oil. It also came with a huge portion of fries, but they were soggy and not appetizing at all.
The carne asada tacos were another letdown. The meat tasted like it had been reheated and was very chewy. The rice was cold, and it seemed like they scraped the bottom of the pan because I ended up with crunchy rice pieces.
The only item that was somewhat okay were the tacos gobernador, but even those were disappointing because the tortilla tasted store-bought and was soggy.
Another shock was the price: $5 for a fountain soda is ridiculous. We ended up paying over $20 per person, and everyone in our group left disappointed.
One thing I also didn’t appreciate was the tip prompt at checkout. The machine automatically adds a tip, and the cashier quickly tells you to click “next” before swiping your card. I don’t mind tipping when I receive great service, but I don’t like feeling pressured or tricked into it. Thankfully I noticed before paying, but others in my group didn’t and weren’t happy about it.
Based on other reviews, it sounds like maybe today was an off day. But if this is the typical quality of the food, then unfortunately this will be a no for us moving forward.

We love this place! We have made it a tradition to come here every time we come to an event at the Maverick center and we all look forward to it. The burrito is HUGE as you can see and my wife lives the barria tacos. My son loved his quesadilla and my daughter didn’t love the Mac n cheese because it was too cheesey and not enough macy.

Spent $60 on 2 meals and 2 drinks. It was not even close to worth it.. the quesabirria was dry and I didn’t get cilantro and hardly any onions. They charge $5 for salsa on the side (like 4oz) now I know ordering French fries and Mac and cheese as a Mexican restaurant is a long shot but the fries were stale and the Mac and cheese tasted like day old noodle water.. the chips in the nachos were literally burnt and barely edible. The best part was the avocado salsa they gave me that I didn’t order. The young girls working here were sweet, but overall a huge disappointment.

I have to say this place is DELECTABLE. I’ve lived in the area for 8 years and this is my first time trying Gallo Loco. The service is excellent, the food is freshly made from scratch and delicious, and the atmosphere is great. The quantity that they give for all the entrees is incredible value for the quality. I got a half chicken with rice and potatoes as a side with salad, and it also came with chips and salsa for free. There is also an amazing smoothie bar inside the restaurant, where I got a delicious passion fruit smoothie, made from scratch. They were also great about my food sensitivities. I highly recommend checking this place out. You won’t be disappointed!

Extremely Clean!
Extremely friendly staff, everyone greeted us, thanked us, and just friendly!
My company is a very picky eater and see decided the Mexican place as her new favorite Mexican place.
The one downside is it is a little pricey, but worth it.

Freaking awesome food!! We ordered and they cooked it and gave it to us hot! Fresh off the stove. Kinda expensive, for 2 people was $60. Plenty of parking. Very clean bathroom. They also had a place in there to get smoothies. There is plenty of seating and open till 1 am. Come out and enjoy a good hot meal. Very friendly staff, bilingual.

We came all the way from Provo because of the IG promotion and I was I little bit disappointed, I ordered two different combos , 4pc and a 2pc, so when my plate came and I saw the pieces I found this one tiny little for a second I thought I was in Smurfland! I asked if this piece could be replaced, I was told sorry but that’s how it’s served and I was …oook, I was resigned to the tiny , later my wife asked if she could get more ketchup and she was told that they ran out of it… at 3pm???? ♂️ I couldn’t believe it!! so, I guess it was a long drive for 2 ⭐️, if i comeback i’ll bring my own ketchup, mayo and maybe hot sauce, sorry but first time experience was not good.
